I used SEM and a spray gun (same stuff as used on my wheels and rear diffuser) and pulled the trim off. Just take your time and it will come off fine without breaking anything.

Hm... maybe that works for the sedans but I thought the chrome on the coupes breaks easily when removed. Not too wild about that idea any more lol.

The trim on the coupe is more sturdy than the sedan.

I think the only reason peoples' trim breaks when they remove it is because they attack it, like that crazy chimp that was all over the news, when they try to remove it.

More info on the DIY for removing trim and painting please. Definitely a good alternative to swapping with someone or buying.... and we weren't fans of the vinyl look.

Any concerns about paint chipping down the road?

Ive had mine painted for a month now and no chips or anything. It will heavily depend on how many layers and how you apply the paint

Good to know. May just them off my fiancee's car then and bring them to her uncle who does paint work. So the sooner you can get to that DIY the better I was under the impression the bottom two had a channel they sit in that could not be re-used.... also the door panel had to come off to loosen the side mirrors.

The trim is composed of 4 parts, the smallest piece right under the side mirror is the piece I didn't take off. In order to take the mirror off you have take the door panel off. That's too much work IMO. I just masked off everything for that tiny little part.

As for the DIY I'm doing it right now.

Mine's been painted since May 2008 (so almost a year) and there is not a single chip anywhere on my trim.

Anyone interested in swaping for shadowline?

I have a 2009 335 coupe which came with Shadowline and I would like to switch to the standard aluminum trim. Anyone interested in swapping.

I will be in San Antonio TX for most of December.

Another option is to wrap it with vinyl. You have a TON of options for color there. Heck you could use a CF look if you wanted. Actually i believe Karbonwerkes has a roll of matte or gloss vinyl that will cover all trim for like $30 bucks. You can do it yourself or pay any sign shop that does vehicle wraps to put it on for you. The side benefit being that its not permanent and you didnt have to remove anything...

Thats a great idea. I just emailed them since it wasnt on the site. You cant beat $30. I know it's not oem but paying a g for black window trim is madness.

Subscribed for DIY for painting.

I got the Karbonwerke matte black vinyl and stuck it on myself but I had to use three pieces for the curved top part of the trim. It looks bad and there are so many bubbles. It bothers me.

you shouldn't have had to use but one piece... it's 4" wide.... go slow, use a hair dryer and it'll work. There was a thread here showing a guy mid process and it worked. If it is too difficult, you can always have a sign shop that does vehicle wraps do it for you. I'm sure they wouldnt charge much.
