Just curious how you got that?

I use 5W40 motul all year round in mine

5w30 goes in my non turbo cars, 5w40 goes in the turbo cars and 5 or 10w/50 goes in the track cars.

I've thought about 0/40 in the winter but i will be switching to a winter beater and with it we haven't had super cold winters (nothing below -25*c)

For as HOT, as an N54/55 motor gets, 5w-40 is better than 5w-30 any day. Just make sure it's LL-01 certified.

fyi: fcp euro now sells 40wt liqui moly oil change kits which puts the price near the castrol/bmw oil mark youre likely paying. Im not entirely sure it's better but people on the forums sure seem to think it's an upgrade.

4th of july sale it was 7litres + mann filter for $55

Honestly the best upgrade I've done to my car. Those Mann oil filters are no joke!

My customer as well as I prefer 5w-40 on this platform. A lot of us run the Motul Xcess 5w-40, great oil.

Check out Mobil 1 0W40 it has gotten a lot of praise and can be bought a Walmart $22 for 5Qt. If you really want to dive into some oil nerd talk go to bobistheoilguy lots of interesting reading there.

I did use it previously, but that oil is no longer BMW LL certified ?? They changed the composition also I read ... The only equivalent I found at Walmart for 25 bucks was Castrol 0w-40, which is BMW LL01 or something... I used that one for now

I used Liqui Moly 5w40 molygen (green) in my last oil change at 132k miles and runs great. I even seen a 10 degree drop in oil temps 👍

I think I read somewhere that it was a contractual issue... I've still used it and my car hasn't blown up... yet...

$20 @ Walmart.

~$11 after rebates makes it a no brainer.

Worth noting that Amazon almost always matches Walmart's price drops, and vice versa, if you have Prime.

If your old oil didn't give you any issues, I say stick with it. Personally, I run whatever's on sale which is usually Mobil 1 0w-40. No issues ever.

I read somewhere that it is proving not to be good in extended use as it leads to accelerated cat failure due to high content of sulphur (?) or some other chemical, I don't recall accurately. I stopped using it.
