The "joy" thing is not new. The BMW catchphrase in German has been "Freude am Fahren" for ages. "Sheer driving pleasure" was one attempt at a translation and better than "joy" imho. I guess they are trying to re-orient their english-speaking customers back to the core image of "Freude".

Thank you very much for the response and explanation. Agree that "sheer driving pleasure" is better than joy imho also. Perhaps they will refine the meesage a bit with more time.

In any event, this concept has restored my faith that BMW will continue to design and maufacture the ultimate driving machine.

Man! I just can't get enough of that machine! That is an out-of-the-park home-run! I am in love!

On another note, the 3-cylinder engines should be fantastic replacements for the inline 4's... they tend to be very smooth like inline 6's and have similar balance and power band characteristics.
