Just got a Bavsound/JL Audio in my new used E90. Got a few questions

I Just purchased a 2010 335i E90 with the Bavsound speakers and JL Audio amp (2018 version). The car originally had the Base audio system without an amp in back. I have a few questions

1. The fader does not work. Moving to the rear causes the sound to go away.

2. The right front speaker is intermittent. What are the typical junction points for the wiring? I assume all this hooks into the factory door wiring at some point as the original wiring went to the CIC head unit.

3. Is there a market for these systems used? I have retrofitted Logic 7 in two of my other E90s and find it perfect for my needs.

Thanks for the assistance. it would be great if I did not have to tear apart the entire car to trace this wiring out!

You need to find out if the car started as a base system with no amp (this is more likely as Hi Fi was not reintroduced till 2011.5 )or
a Hi Fi system with and amp .

In the base system there was no amp and the underseat speakers where wired
in parallel with the front doors.

That is a six channel amp so the way most people would split the connection between
the doors and floors. Normal configuration would be 4 channels from head unit to Inputs . 4 channel input selected . 2 channels for front doors on per side . 2 channels
for under floors on per side , 2 channels for rear on per side.

things to check .
Do both the Front and Rear Inputs from the head unit run into the amp .
Are the parallel connections split for the front seats and doors such that
and amplifier channel runs to each location.
Are the switches setup for 4 channel input on the amplifier.(looks like 6 which makes
no sense)
Can't really tell but it looks like channels 5 and 6 have no speakers hooked up at all.
Kind of a hatchet job install.
Somebody may have been doing a 5 channel setup with no rears. And either a sub or
mono wiring to the under seats.

Also you may need new speakers for the doors to handle the power.

You should trace this out the base system has not wiring harness and there is
no way to know whats going on without doing this.

"Kind of a hatchet job install". You got that right! It is set to 6 channels. 6 in and 6 out. The front CIC output feeds a line output converter and then splits the L and R RCA to 4 RCAs for the runs to the back. The rear CIC output feeds the subs, first to a level adjuster (not sure that is needed), then to a line output converter (also not sure if that is needed). Ideally I would simplify all of this and set the amp to input mode 4 and fix the L, R, F, R input issue/fader.

All the issues appear to be with the CIC output to the amp inputs. The amp to speaker runs were done correctly and split the front/sub connection. The car did not come with an amp from the factory. It was a base.

Do I even need the level converters? The RCA connections are loose and causing intermittent audio signal.
Also, the CIC was coded after the install for some reason. I accidentally deleted that when coding my Combox retrofit this am. Was the coding to adjust the speaker output of the CIC?
If I can code the CIC to have the correct audio output for the amp input, that would be best. 200mV – 4V input voltage

The melt mark below is from the hot bulb. Also, in the pic at the top of the thread, speaker wire 6 was disconnect for some reason?? I reconnected it and it is now working fine.

Are you talking about trunk subs with a separate amplifier?

You should really read the base system setup DIY that is what
a good base system setup with 6 channel JL amp should look like.

The under seats are not true subs they are mid bass speakers but for
most people they provide plenty of bass and enough midrange to
offset the tiny 4 inch door speakers.

Best to code to Hi Fi output but the JL amp will accept either that or high level speaker
out read the JL manual you can get it at the JL site.
No frequency flattening device needed with the Hi Fi programming.

Thanks for the reply. I was just reading about coding the CIC from Base to HiFi. That will allow me to remove all this mess. I only have the under seat "subs" hooked to 5 and 6.

I am going to disconnect everything and reconnect correctly. The parallel front/sub connection completely confused the guy who was her before me. They ran a lot of unnecessary wires and completely over complicated things.

I could have retrofitted a L7 in the time it took me to reverse engineer this mess .

So you get the part about how to split the parallel connection?

There are two version's of where it is split in early cars the parallel
connection is in the door sills and in later cars it's at the under seat
connectors.

The L7 retrofit in base car or Hi Fi car looks like a giant pain as you have
to put in the L7 harness.

It would be worth your while to read all those links so things are more
understandable.

I figured out the split parallel thing. As far as L7, I have done 2 retrofits now so it is pretty easy for me. Finding affordable center speaker grilles is the hardest part .

One more question. Will quadlock pin 13 (radio on for CIC) trigger the amp to turn on? Currently they are hooked to the lighter plug wiring which does not energize until the car is on.

thanks

Also that version of the JL600/6 has signal sensing I believe.
(for turn on )
