EML and then vanished!
Hello All,
I had my BMW safety recalls done a few days ago and no issues. Today i was running low on petrol and the low fuel warning signal came on as expexted (silly its still has 3 dash lines before the red), anyway got home and parking up and then the EML came on!!!! nothing on idrive of errors, only low fuel reserve. So i turned off waited 30mins switched on and it was still on. Anyway later i went to put petrol in (full tank) and then it vanished I am really worried why this occurred or is it one of those i need to monitor, does low fuel cause this??? Or something is brewing. Or is the safety recalls for E90 320i 2010 related to this? Do anyone else have this light come on and vanish? FYI: I replaced spark plugs/coils less than 1k miles ago. Its had a oil service+air filter less than 2k miles ago. |

I would imagine there will be an error code stored for whatever it was so I would have it scanned and see what codes pop up... will give you a starting point as right now it would be a guess at best.

ok I rang BMW dealer and first question they mentioned was if I had low fuel warning and driving I said yes. they said this has been observed before and advised to keep a eye on it as once I have refilled (as mentioned) it will go away. they said if it comes back then come in as otherwise I would be charged for diagnosis right now.
I also.rang the Indy and they too said they have seen this phenomenon before. if its.not affecting anything and light goes of then wait until it comes on again. I guess the conclusion is to just monitor this and wait until I get low fuel, to see if it comes on. |

Its weird BMW know about it and seen it so many times, and just told me to "monitor" it as long as i am not losing any performance keep going fill up and see how i go. I think its wise to see the codes but just dithering spending £50+ for diagnostics. I rather spend it on the mrs lol

It is often just can crap in the bottom of the tank, it gets burnt and isn't as clean so sets off the EML.
Nothing to worry about, but don't run your tank that low, you can suck crap into the fuel filter and block it. |

I guess wife doing short school runs not helping in this scenario anyway. I rather a petrol than a diesel with short journeys.
I will keep monitoring. its bizarre how BMWs are so sensitive to low fuel. my focus I constantly run to red and some more lol never had a issue. |
