You can use X1 US (2013-15) heated steering wheels as well. I also imagine E60? BMW 5 series used the same wheel, just with different switches and trims.

Try www.car-part.com for X1 parts not listed on eBay. Run the Vin with BMW VIN decoders to find if it was heated. Most were made with heated.

US Market BMW part supplier for the empty connector, male and female pins with wires.

Connector, empty, 3 Pin to heater switch

Connector, empty, 12 pin to clockspring
https://www.bmwpartslink.com/oem-par...20-61136954518
These are out of stock in USA as of 11/2019. Best way to get them is find the sellers on eBay, car-part.com and tell them to cut the wires and the connector from the salvage for you. I got it done for $25 shipped, generously priced so I can get it sooner. Shipping from Germany runs $12 just for that part, plus $7.5 for the part.

Atlanta BMW dealer has the same parts but does not have $24+ anal enlarging shipping fee. Shipping is reasonable around $7+ for standard one week.

Also the forum sponsor has great prices.

Clocks spring is pulled off using three tabs. Two on clock spring and one on wiper stalk etc hub. The two arrows on the hub where the optical steering position sensor must remain together when you put the clock spring on it.
Goes without saying you must have the steering in center before working on all this.

The wire to heater element controller on steering is seen here.

The power to that wire is connected using pin 7,9,10, and 12 as seen in pic.

Even without 12 pin plug, you can plug 6 pin to the first row of pins, the push release should face the second row of pins

Removal and replacement of clock spring will need to recalibrate 4x4 DSC etc codes. There are tools on Amazon made for BMW under $100

Hello everybody
First post on the forum.
I´m also going to do this upgrade and collecting parts.
I have steeering wheel and clock spring for heated steering wheel and acc.
Hands free and back up camera is also on the to do list(had it on my e46 and like it).
my question is, can i mount all the hardware and code later without getting any strange alarm(acc, heated steering wheel, handsfree, backup camera)?
Question # can you make another harnes with correct connectors for me?

Thanks´

You can just buy the connector and wires off a wreck like I did and connect the wires. I paid $25 shipped in USA for the 2x 12 pin connector and the 3 pin going to the column switch.

The heated steering is stand-alone. The controller for heat is built into the steering wheel. It sits on the inside of bottom spoke, which is why it is so wide. No other computers in the car know it even exists.

I also found an Euro supplier for the terminals

So I ordered the female pins and 8 pin connector. I don't think that part number for the pins is right. Or I got the wrong pins, mine didn't fit.

Just bought the kit with this harness. So if I understand right you do not need to repin any connectors, just run power and ground?

If you have the harness, clocksprings that take the harness to power the steering, yes. But you will want the switch in the middle for on and off.
It can even work in ANY BMW so long as they take the steering wheel. Multi function switch is another story.

Awesome. It looks like it's got the wheel, clockspring, SZL, lower shroud with the button, and the harness. I plan to just swap the clockspring only and keep my current SZL since I have an E91.

That's what I did. I got one included with E91 wiper stalk but was a bit worn out so I kept mine and swap just the clock spring.

E90 and coupe obviously don't come with rear wiper, unlike Japanese JDM sedans and coupes.

One last question - does anyone have a tutorial or resource for replacing the entire wiring harness? I can not seem to find one in my searches. One I get that in it seems the wheel is basically plug and play other than running the power wire which won't be an issue.

That's a long wire loom to replace all over. You're going to have to dig into the dash to get there. I'm not up for it, easier to cut the tips you need and wire them to DC power from fuse box. You can tidy up to make it look OE. Still won't have to cut into OE on the car if you just transplant the 6 pin to 12 pin plug.

You're definitely right, that is what I'm going to do. I've got the switch and power/ground wire transferred to the bottom of the 12 pin already. All that is left is transferring the 6 pin and running the power/ground today.

First pic is where you can pull out the pins from the original 6 pin plug. Used a thin flat head to pop out the plastic clip, push in the metal clip using a very small but strong steel pin. I used the smallest Allen Wrench I could find. Not only you have to push down on the metal tip clip and pull, you also have to push out the tip of it. Allen tool bent tip comes in handy for leverage there.

How do I fish the wire across from steering to the glove box fuse box?

I fished it across the center dash trim. Easiest to pop out, and I didn't have ash tray to wire from.
Pull out the center buttons (push straight through) to reconnect the wires easier.
I left the start button out to replace the worn trim later. You can also fish it to the center console 12V plug and tap it in. But it will take different stuff to not cut into the OE wiring.

For LCI car with heated seat, I used Fuse 10 to tap the original 5 AMP for heated front seats. Now just like the heated seats, without car running the heated steering won't turn on and drain battery.
Your glove box back cover that covers the fuse box will have fuse diagram if you look at the back of the cover panel. The diagram is folded neatly in the back of panel.

Hello,
What is it that actually differ between x6 stalk and the e90?
Is it the clock spring it self or is it the complete unit?
Reason for asking is that i can get my hands on a x6 unit with both heated steering wheel and ACC,can you combine units or.....

Thanks'

just swap the ring for the heating and the stalk for ACC, you don need to use the x6 main body
