Replace power steering pump - needs coding?

Hey guys, tried a search but everything came up for fuel pumps!

I need to replace my whining PAS pump (E92 N55 LCI) and I am hearing that I need to 'code' the new pump to the car and it will not 'plug & play'.

Any ideas what is needed? I am no stranger to a spanner but I have never had to code anything to a car before.

Thanks in advance!
