Good on you for tracking these jobs. However, there is no such thing as oil plan gasket ___day. Try oil pan gasket ___days….

Lol always a day job for oil pans for me. I'm a mechanic/jeweler by trade. Yeah definitely helps me maintain other par5s now or later when I can track it all.

Finally has put some miles on my n55 e90 after going the rod bearings, oil pan gasket and replacing mechatronic separator plate, gaskets and solenoids.
Replaced the FRM3 I had with FRM2. Still have some issues with this car:
1. after replacing and coding the frm, I get adaptive headlight errors, i wonder if this is because the replacement frm was from the car with halogen headlights. I’ve heard that if the mileage is less than 125kmiles, I can get the frm replaced under warranty, is that true?
2. Transmission is still acting strange sometimes. I.e, reverse is sometimes engaged with clunk, and when I put it in D, feels like the drivetrain loads a little bit too much. If I get it to N from D, the rpms would go up slightly then go back down. This was happening before I did a transmission service I mentioned above.
3. Also, sometimes when taking off from the stop, it feels like the car needs more gas then usual to get going, but then it “catches up” and kind of “overshoots”. I think couple of times when I pressed the throttle somewhat deliberately to get it going, it would break the rears loose when it “caught up”. I.e., it looks like some times there’s a delayed throttle reaction. Not sure if this is an issue with transmission or something on the engine side such as valvetronic or some issues which cause abrupt boost buildup such as sticky wastegate, wg actuator or wg control solenoid.

Built date is irrelevant. Plenty of 2011 MY 335i came without oil cooler setup, xDrive models in particular.

True - though this is a ZSP car with the external oil cooler setup. And it is relevant as it pertains to the revised oil pump setup and HPFP, which were revised after 06/2011, IIRC.

I've noticed some cars have the cooler and other do not... what is the ZSP package and why did they have the cooler?

Thanks!

ZSP = sport package

For RWD cars, this automatically conferred the oil cooler (option 840, high speed synchronization). For XDrive cars, they needed to be equipped with 18” summer tires as well- the staggered setup.

Option 840 was also a prerequisite for ZMZ (the BMW Performance package), and IIRC the M Sport package (ZMP) also included it as well, even for XDrive cars.

THANK YOU! Did not know, great data to keep tucked away! Our F10 has an oil cooler, and I noticed others didn't, and wondered why. It has the sport package!

Replaced the supporting ledge that holds the windshield wiper cowling to the windshield, figured out the thing goes attached to the windshield first then clips onto the cowling, pain in the ass to do it the other way. Was causing a seriously annoying rattle with the old broken one.

My least favorite part (to date) of the E90. Never in my life had a car with such a lame design feature.

The next worst feature is the small rubber trim on the side of the tail light. I remember replacing it on my old E46, it's not available for the E9x so they want you to buy new tail lights. I saw that mine were deteriorating so I'll have to figure out a solution.

I'm 1500 miles away from my car, but I ordered parts that will be there when I get back! New headlight and taillight housings, and a new intake.

Replaced n55 valve cover gasket on my E70 today.
I thought it would be simple like the n52 and it was not.
Had to remove the wipers and wiper cowl to remove the bracket for the strut tower braces.
Bolt fell into turbo inlet pipe
Coil boot stuck on one plug.
What a DIY!

About to put in a new battery, leaning towards the odyssey 49/H8-950 CCA AGM. Looks like a solid one, mine is like 7 years old and getting tired, especially when cold. I think my previous one was a Platinum AGM FROM ORELLEY, and think this one will have a bit more juice I think 94 AH versus current at 90 AH. Any thoughts/input before I lock it in? Thanks, and will register/code as required.

E70 is on our short list to replace the GL450, but that thing keeps on keeping on! I like the 2010 models with the N52, but am being tempted by the N55 ones!

We love our E70.
Took us 2 years to find the one with all the options we wanted.
It’s used the most.

Originally wanted the N63/4.4l V8 but I couldn’t find one with valve stem seal service. The one I did find that had the service done was picked up from under me!

The n55 moves it around pretty easily.
I’m not sure the n52 would move the weight of the x5 as easily.

Aim for a 2011+ model. That’s when they introduced the 8speed transmission.

Good to hear! I really like the GL, but it is just sooooo damn big. An E70 would just be a lot more practical.

N52 is definitely underpowered for that much mass! It does have a three stage on it which I think generates around 260 HP though. And presumably a lot more reliable than a N55.

Here's one local to me that I am trying to justify getting while at the same time trying to stop clicking on: https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/...570279013.html

The e70 size is just about right.
Trunk space is cut to a 1/3 with the third row folded up. A roof rack or cargo carrier on the hitch solves that.

Sometimes it’s even too big for us, lol!
Have been toying with the idea of an x3 35i.

That one looks nice and clean. I didn’t know that was what they were priced at now. Seems high for non m sport but miles are good.
Mine was far from local…
Found it in GA and had it brought here to CA.

The n55 hasn’t been any different than the n52, so far.
Noisy belt tensioner, leaking rear airbags, leaking OFHG and the VCG is all I’ve done in 2 years. That and normal maintenance.
Decent towing set up too.

I think waiting for the 8 speed is sage advice. My e91 with the n52/6 speed auto is a complete dog. The transmission is the worst part of the car, by far. It’s an American 10-yr-old-tech POS.

The 8 speed in our f15 is possibly the best part of the car. It allows the car to do so much to make the most of the power.

And with the N52 you’re certainly going to need to extract every last HP. It weighs about 1,200 pounds more than the e91 yeah? Those two extra cogs will go a LONG way.
