tranny swap on 2008 335i?

Hi guys, my car is an automatic. I don't have a problem with auto but I do prefer 6mt. I know that I have should have brought a 6mt from the beggining but the actual market around here for 335s is rather "small", didn't find a clean 6mt. I hate the way the gear shifts on automatics when you redline as opposed to newer f30 models (they don't shift automaticly like nissan and infinity cars) and I need a clutch pedal in my life right now. Since the labour around here is very cheap, an auto to manual tranny swap is usually free.
Basically Automatic transmission $ = manual tranny $ + labour $.
+ My mechanic told me that he got hold of a 2k miles manual tranny from a z4 (n54) that he converted to auto. (Keep in mind keeping the shorter ratio'd auto diff) What sucks about swapping to mt is: I would loose some resale value and it would take longuer to sell since less people drive mts and I'm trying to avoid future headaches.
2k miles manual transmission from a z4
0$ paid
Lower resale value
Car actually harder to resell

Should I do it? And should I run into unexpected problems later mechanically?

you will also need a rear diff im assuming since people with aftermarket diffs always need the same type of transmission swap, alot of coding to the DME, and of course the interior work for the addition of a clutch, the 6MT accelerator pedal (it doesnt have the kickdown)and i believe some driveshaft and components.
not worth it at all

Do it if its only 2k. i just screwed up my transmission and fix it, i was thinking doing the same thing but it was cheaper for me to upgrade my auto i ended up spending 2k, but if i was to switch to manual i would need pedal assembly master cylinder MT transmission and and upgraded clutch ECT... for my HP numbers i would need an beefy clutch. idk i ended up with a 3500 price tag + diff and driveshaft ECT LMAO. but if its only 2k DO IT.

Yes, all of that would be covered. Btw I'll be using my automatic diff, all pedals would be replaced with mt ones, driveshaft gona be replaced too.

o.o bro I'm getting the swap for free :P NADA $ lol. What I meant by 2k is how many miles mt tranny has! The z4 that had it had only 2k miles on its odometer

as long as everything works as intended with no errors or weird malfunctions, i'll consider it.

My 6AT is in great condition, no slipping or anything. I baby my car. no hard launches or abuse.

I can possibly sell the 6AT and get a 6MT.

however, 6AT with my DCT M3 wheel and paddle shift is amazingly fun to drive.

The guy already swapped like 19 trannies up to now MT to AT and AT to MT with 0 problems back and forth, he guarantees his work up to 3 years!! He told me that it would be as if I brought my car MT from the dealership.. we'll see. Anyways concerning paddle shifters, no doubt its fun to drive and better with traffic but IMO NOTHING beats MT if you're seeking driving pleasure and fun.

Let me get this right.

It's free

He guarantees his work

And you know of several cars already converted by him with zero issues.

What the hell are you asking us for again?

Before doing the auto-to-manual swap, you may want to consider flashing your automatic transmission with the Alpina B3 flash, which many people on this forum do. I read that it really transforms the way the transmission behaves, shifts are much quicker and it doesn't automatically shift at redline. The user "cn555ic" on this forum may help you, shoot him a PM.

Because I'd loose some resale value and the car would be actually harder to sell in the future. Anyways took the decision

O.o Never heard about that flash. I have actually reserved that manual tranny and if it had a bit of high mileage I would have actually considered that tune. But however, 2000 miles + free swap is actually a steal. My friend is as stubborn as a mule and wants to keep his auto, so Ill let him know, thanks bro.

Its in Lebanon. I live abroad, not in the US. The guy doesn't have a website but he's really something. He usually imports from Germany around 45 containers (40') full of BMW euro parts every month Ill post pics
Some of the prices in his shop:
390$ brand new newest gen HPFP including labour
100$ for a wheel ball bearing change inc labour
400$ for a water pump inc. labour
40$ for a set of euro coils lol (6) (with like 100miles on each)
etc etc

Gmo you misunderstood, tranny has 2k miles on it, swap is FREE.
No updates yet, mechanic advised me to wait a bit because there's a guy who wants to swap to auto and he's willing to pay 1.5k, 500 for labour and 1k for me !!!! Waiting for his final decision . This thing is too good to be true lol. Hopefully it is. If it didn't work out, I'm getting the 2k miles tranny.

This is a good thing, actually. Their mechanics seem not to be scared to do swaps and stuff like the ones in the US
