So your saying the stock exhaust sounded the best? Why not Akraprovic? I know it's expensive. Is it better performing than the Vanguard?

For the price I hope it does lol. I can't tell unless you put it on my car. I can feel when each exhaust has its potential but, I suggest keep stock exhaust and change tips if too small for you. You can run 4inch tip n it still doesn't cover up the hole lol.

Dude you have a 335is. Have you honestly heard a better sounding 3 series? The stock exhaust is the nicest sound and has no compromise whatsoever. Quiet at idle, cruise, rips open under throttle and the sound in between the shifts if you have the dct is unreal. If you gave me any aftermarket system I'd say no thanks.

Yea I have a 335is but I jus got it Monday LOL. I'm still in the break-in period so I don't know how the exhaust truly sounds. But no, I have not heard a better sounding 3 series.

Not really. Most modern cars in this class weight around 3500 lbs. Yea, it's not light, but relative to the competition, it's on par. Heavy to me is a 2 door passenger car that is over 2 tons. Light in this category would be between 3000-3250 lbs.

Been off the forums for awhile and just checked back in this thread. Congrats to all the new 'is' owners! I believe there was discussion a few pages back regarding the dct and higher hp mods. In the early alpha testing of the jb4 I was worried that my less than smooth shifts were a result of the dct not taking the power. I called a couple of the top dct trans experts including SSP about a clutch pack upgrade and ESS about a software mod they do on the (very similar) M3 dct. Due to lack of general demand and no conclusive evidence that the dct can't in fact handle the power, a dct upgrade on the 'is' was put on the shelf. That was a few months ago. Fwiw terry at BMS felt similarly. I sent him some logs and the latest firmware updates for the jb4 are working beautifully. When switching maps up and down, it seems the dct takes a little a time to adapt, but once it does, everything works perfectly. In my last testing session, I was out with 'hotrod182' running race gas and map 7. Shifts in sport were spot on.

I've had the jb4 on for almost a year now (10k miles) with no issues.

I had the rattling issue when I started the car. After 3 different deanships visits, one tech discovered the issue: the internal valve flap inside the exhaust is loose. To correct the problem, the tech would need to completely replace the exhaust from factory. Alternatively, you can ask the tech to disengage the valve flap (switch is in the driver side inside trunk wall) so the valve wouldn’t ever close. The actual result of this switch... you exhaust will be loud as hell at start-up. Can someone else confirm my understanding?

Um, yea, that's exactly what happens. I'm confused as to how it took 3 techs to diagnose that problem. It has been such a common issue amongst the 335i and 335is since 2007 that the most incompetent tech should be able to diagnose that almost without even hearing the car do it.

I disabled mine by pulling the hose at the exhaust tip and plugging it. At least then, it doesn't trip the electronics or register a fault, which can happen by unplugging the actuator in the trunk.

Ferrari has been putting valves in their F430 and F458 and not once have I seen one of them rattle on the near daily occurence that I see one of them on the road. These cars are freaking high revving 8 cylinder exotics with much higher exhaust gas pressure and somehow they know how to seal their pipes better.
