335d Tank Venting

Total noob question for anyone who has a 2009-2011 335d. Is there any way to 'vent' the tank while filling? I just moved up from a VW TDI. After the pump hit the stop point, you could press on a valve with the nozzle to let the air out of the chamber. This technique would allow you to squeeze an extra 13L of fuel into the tank.

Is this a VW-only phenomenon? Can't seem to find any info on this online.

I am not aware of this problem with the 335d. At the service station, when the filling fuel pump stop automatically, there is little room left for more fuel without over-fuelling.

VW only. The only problems we've had were wrong-sized nozzles that don't open the miss-fueling safety interlock - use your (provided) funnel but be careful with the shutoff if you do.

I've never been able to put even a quart in after the nozzle shuts off.

Thank you, floydarogers! I'd been experimenting with ways to defeat the auto-shutoff to try and squeeze a few more drops into the tank like I did with the TDI. The only thing that I was successful with was spilling a bunch of diesel onto the rear body panel, tires and my shoes.

It wasn't really a 'problem,' montr. It was more of an awesome 'feature' on the TDIs that added about 200km to your range.

Its only a "feature" if the tank doesn't normally fill all the way up. If you run this car close to empty then you can easily fill 16 gallons on the 16.2 gallon tank.
