Changes to BMW 3 series in FROM mARCH 2007
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=1
so by this article can we assume that in the UK the 330 will no longer be made. I, personally, do not believe this to be the case. obviously theres the addition of brake regeneration to the 3-saloon, not sure of the coupe though. and the USB addition in October. any thoughts. |

Hmm that news snippet seems refers to the North America market as AFAIK the Xi model is only sold in that market.
It looks like they are trying to rationalise the engine range and use different ECU's for different perfomance levels as they did with the E46. |

That's exactly what they're doing. I think the 325 and 330 are now identicle cars except the 325 is 'detuned' by about 50 bhp.

Does this mean it's possible to 're-tune' (for want of a better phrase) a 325i back up to 330i power levels?

I think there were a few other differences - air intake, exhaust etc.. so you couldn't just buy a 325i - remap it - and have a 330i. I haven't seen any sign that the european cars will follow this system. I would have thought our higher focus on emissions and fuel consumption would mean that there was always a need for a 2.5l engine, but of course the 325d is a detuned 3.0d so who knows. I will be absolutely gutted if they drop the 330i in the UK though. I don't see this happening however since they haven't really dropped it in the US. Instead they have dropped the 325i and slightly detuned the 330i to make the 328i - all to differentiate between the NA model and the twin-turbo. |

I would also be dissapointed if there was not a naturally aspirated choice as good as the current 330i. Having said that - I don't think it will happen in the UK. |

Well originally dealer said w/c 7th May. Then this week he said 1st week in may. Not sure if they can be more precise than that at this stage?!
Exciting huh. Just hoping I don't regret d vs i decision.

Diesel is almost certainly the more sensible choice and would be the way to go unless you REALLY wanted petrol. Since your pick up is only a week away I reckon your dealer should be able to agree a date and time. It would be nice to get it for the holiday though ! |
