Engine harness 02 sensor branch crushed?

Hi all,
I recently got an 02 sensor heater code on both banks. My 2009 N52 328i has about 145k km so it would be reasonable for the heater to go, but both at the same time seemed unlikely. After eliminating the 02 sensors as culprits of the codes (measured 8-9 Ohm) I found a "crushed" wiring between the engine harness junction box and the 02 sensors.
Nobody worked on the car in the last 6+months and no work was done in the vicinity of this wire branch in the last 4+ years.
Has anybody seen a similar damage? I can't find any cause of the wire damage. The pictures aren't very clear but the copper is still shiny so the damage has to be recent. It doesn't look like rodent damage, but I might be wrong. The car is being driven almost daily.
Some of the pictures are taken with a borescope, which I didn't have with me when taking stuff apart.
The damage is quite deep and I couldn't reach it from under the car or top of the engine bay.
I'd like to figure out what caused it before I fix it.

Looking for advice and I appreciate your time.

looks like roden damage. You drive by day; they come out at night.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have much experience with rodent car damage. So you're probably right. What's odd is that I drove the car from work with no check engine light, stopped at the post office and then the light came on. But I've heard that some people don't even have check engine light on when there is an issue with the 02 sensor heaters.
