Electric metre beeping

Vacant house next door metre has been beeping for days, house landlord not bothered, is there anyway to stop this beeping besides topping up?

I've never heard them beep before. I've seen all sorts of meters, some in debt, but no beeps. Might be worth calling the electricity company and reporting it. Might be faulty.
