E93 335i - High pitched hum and whine

Hi All,

I have a stock 335i on 64k and the other day on noticed I have a high pitched hum on idle which goes away when I blip the throttle. Its not always there but occurs quite often.

Alongside that I have also noticed a R2D2 style whine when I am decelerating without braking its more noticeable when the car is cold but is still there when warmed up.

Engine oil is full and no codes have been thrown up on any diagnostic but something is deffo amiss here.

Any idea what it could be?

Thanks

When you say hum/whine, how do you hear it? is it through the speakers or from the engine bay/elsewhere?

If its coming through the speakers then that would suggest a dodgy earth somewhere...

Thats not the noise I'm experiencing, its a constant high pitched hum opposed to a squeak.

Someone I spoke to mentioned it might be a vacuum issue?

Hmm ok, it could be the wastegate solenoid, does it sound like this? https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...1003075&page=1

That sounds pretty much bang on to what I'm hearing, cheers bud!

Any idea how much that roughly costs to sort?

I have a BMW warranty on mine with a £100 excess, if its less than £100 might as well go to an indy to fix it.

Don't quote me but I think the solenoid would be just under £100 then there would be fitting so the warranty route might be the way to go.
