ask and you shall receive
http://www.aftermarketbulbsshop.com/...p/bmw-sh-r.htm Completely Plug N Play. Ability to easily adjust and fine-tune the brightness of the shifter R, N, D LEDs (otherwise they are blindingly bright). Also, the wiring harness fits perfectly inside the base plate and conforms to the shape so wires aren't hanging around or get snagged in the mechanical shifting process. shifting gears
Does it really mod to a M5,, i mean the way it shows on the nod, shifting left is N and R, the +/- now not on left side??

no it's just the lights that light up when you're in those modes. Like if you're in D/S mode it'll light up even if it appears on the other side of the shift pattern.

Anyone having any issues or regretting getting this knob? Anyone worried that someone else might accidentally put the car in reverse or park, since the button doesn't need to be engaged anymore?
thanks!

Just an update for this thread (following up with wmandra's post), I just did this mod for my 2009 BMW 335 (E90 LCI).
Here's the wiring diagram: (B = Blue; W = White; M = M3 DCT) B1 --- M8 B2 --- M2 B3 --- M1 *B4, B6 --- M6, M7, M9* B5 --- NOT USED W1 --- NOT USED W2 --- NOT USED W3 --- M3 W4 --- M4 W5 --- M5 NOTE: easiest way for B4 and B6 is to first splice those two together, then splice them to a single point splitting up into 3 wires. Those wires will then feed into M6, M7, and M9. |

Not worried at all. In all new cars (which includes the E9X's), if you're driving and you accidentally put the lever into R, it will just disengage the drive shaft (i.e. R will act like N). So you're ok.

Quick question - would anyone happen to know the Part Number for the 10-pin connector to connect to the M3 DKG Knob connector (lots of connectors in the sentence, but you get my drift i hope)? Also, would you happen to know if i dont want to bother with the modes itself, and only need the illumination, do I only need M1 and M2 or M1,M2 and M8? Here is my feedback - M3 Shifter in Alpina B3 Biturbo
Adapting the M3 Shifter and boot: I havent connected the lighting yet, so these are preliminary pics of the basic installation. I have started by adapting the M3 shifter by cutting of the M3 shiftboot, and then "peeled" the M3 knob through the standard OEM steptronic boot - fastened with cable ties and done. Install: Very simple - the attached boot slots right into the plate from the automatic gearbox Then did a little testdrive to check all is working as it should - and I am quite happy with it so far... Side View PassengerSide In Neutral In Park Mode In Manual Mode Summary I really like it, didnt think it would come out this well. The black face of the shifter also works quite nicely with the highgloss black interior of my Alpina B3. Since this shifter was used and is a little scratched, I am now contemplating whether to go for the real deal and do it properly with a new shifter and the full installation including wiring. |

And I would assume you need M1, M2, and M8. |

Ok, so I just did this mod and eliminated the stock PRND indicator but I have a question. What can I do/add to adjust or lower the brightness of the LED's on the M3 knob but only at night?
