Loud hum from rear end

FYI, at 22,500 miles I had a rather loud hum from the rear of the car. On the first visit the dealership told me the factory run flats were overdue for replacement and thats where the noise was coming from. So I replaced the tires and the hum presisted. The sound is almost like the backlash on the rear differential is off. The rear axle bearings were the culprit. When I asked why they failed so early, the response I received was they were probably a bad production run. This condition also caused a small vibration and I was going to have a word with the tire installation facility. I hope this information proves useful to some here.
