Determining ECU/dme compatibility

Hello I have an issue with the bsd line causing the water pump to be on as soon as the ignition is on and an oil level inactive readout. I've researched and tried different fixes the last being a replacement ecu. I have an 2007 328 with msv80 dme. What other ecus are compatible or how do I determine that. I'll need a donor and then try to clone it. I'm guessing a similar model 328 e90 or e91 would be ok but is there a part number range I should look at specifically?
