Is my E92 N55 tuned?

Just bought a 2011 335i, E92, N55 xDrive from a local dealer on 2/4/22. 44k miles on the clock, clean CARFAX with extensive service records, single owner. Owner is unknown, so no contact possible.

I am a first time BMW owner; I did a search but had a hard time finding an answer- please feel free to link me to a page you'd recommend, otherwise here is my question:

First off, this thing is a rocket. By far the most powerful car I have ever driven- apart from a day at the test track at the Greenville, SC driving M3's.... ohhh what fun!!!! Anyways, This thing is DEFINITELY modded, so a more appropriate question would be: How can I find out WHAT tune is on my car, as I assume there must be one?

MODS that i KNOW of:
1- "Split Second AIC1 additional injector controller"- but I also couldn't find easily understandable info on this item, even on their website- I am not completely sure what this is or what it does....or what HP gains this adds.
2- Aluminum Injen Tuned intake;
3- Cobb charge pipe;
4- I can hear the turbos spooling very clearly, but probably due to the intake. But I can ALSO clearly hear a BOV;
5- I am pretty sure the downpipe was changed out for deleted cat pipe; Flowmaster exhaust as well- this thing sounds ANGRY under acceleration. Also drones more than I would like, so I am looking at sound dampening- any recommendations?

I am assuming with these mods that a tune was done at some point, so I am concerned that I should be running E85 mix and not know it. On the CARFAX, it says that, other than regular maintenance, the thermostat and tie rods were replaced about 5k ago. Not much else to speak of that I can recall.

So how can I tell IF/ WHAT tune is on my car?

Thanks for ya'lls patience!

Congrats on the new car! That's a great find. I'd recommend Vibrant 1792 resonators for the sound dampening. Good luck with the rest.

Look into on line literature here on JB4. You can use your steering wheel controls to determine if you have a JB4 box.

You might need to get connected to the ECU via an MHD license. If the car has a custom tune you'll see it identified in the name. At minimum even if the car has JB4, in order to require the AIC1 controller the car likely has, or had port injection, thus the need for a back end flash, or a custom tune, and a few other hardware things. You need to determine where it stands before you really get on it so you have proper fuel.

I stopped in to a local BMW guy close to home who has me set up for a look-see on Monday. thanks for the info! Fortunately there is an E85 place close by as well, JIC.

If you have what I suspect, and a previous owner didn't yank performance parts off before selling it, you might have a screamer.

Damn, nice find. If you have an AIC6 you may have some big mods like an uprgaded turbo. Looking forward to seeing what you find out!

Thanks again for the feedback.... yeah I am hopeful, and she definitely is fast and fun. Held my own with a GTR last night on the interstate... looked down at the speedo once or twice and the needle was above 130. won't be a regular thing, just sort of happened. Nobody else around, really. Effortless power, but I'm sure the GTR was taking it easy on me.

If you have a catless dp then you should be able to tell by the smell. You would smell unburnt fuel when your windows are down, especially when stopped. Also if you're catless and not tuned, you would've seen a CEL by now. To quickly check for a JB4, press volume down and station down on the steering wheel at the same time. If your gauge cluster goes blank and the speedometer/tachometer move then it has a JB4.

JB, where the hell have you been, dude? TC definitely has something going on. I just hope he figures out what he's got before he does anything by not having the proper fueling.

TC, do what JB suggested on the steering wheel. That will give you an idea whether or not you have the JB4. As whyzee suggested you might have a Pure 2 + more, which might explain the AIC6 box.

Did the steering wheel check- no gauge change. Don't see the jb4 box in the ECU compartment. We shall see what the mech. says on Monday. And after second inspection and discussions, probably do still have the cat. Exhaust doesn't smell too bad. thanks again, all!

Got a bt OBDII reader/ diag. tool....

So I assume there MUST be a tune on the ECU since I can't find a jb4 and...

I am seeing 14.5 psi boost while cruising... Maxxed at 18 psi under acceleration. From what I see, 8.5 is stock.

Coolant temp is 220F*- is this ok?

She's tuned!!!

I think coolant temp targets are dependent on cooling mode, which is dependent on driving conditions, ambient temp., etc. That said, 220F I'd say is in the normal range for n55.

I have logs from today. My coolant is at 220F.

Another thought is you could probably contact MHD customer support and they will likely be able to tell you if the car has an MHD license which are locked to each car by VIN...

Thank you. I will do that. Nothing much new to report other than I'm actually hitting 26psi, not the 18 as I thought before. I just didn't go WOT the first time. Oh, and she's def catless. No faults, runs great! Doesn't appear that any performance parts were taken off before their trade in. I think I really have a gem. Looking for a local track to get an idea of what she can really do

26psi on an n55 is on the higher side. I would check to see what tune and turbo setup you have. 26psi would require supplemental fueling.

Wait you have a BOV on ur charge pipe? That would mean that you have a some sort of larger single turbo kit like a speedtech or big boost of sorts. N55s don't come with a bov stock on charge pipe

Right. I'm ordering a wifi obd2 scanner to use with mhd app. The one I have now is only bluetooth and won't work with the app. And yes, supplemental fueling like port injection, which i forgot to mention earlier. Earlier in the thread someone said I most likely have the AIC-6 to run port injection.
