CIC/Combox/Carplay/Bluetooth...Frazzle!

Hey folks, having owned a few e90's (diesels) in the past, and then later the F30,including recently owning a 330d, I have now moved back to an E90 Petrol, in the name of very short journeys and some finance paying-off!

So...It's been ages when I started investigating Comboxes and things like that - I believe I had a retrofit done a few years ago to one of the E90's but now I am just wondering, is it needed if going the Carplay route?

I've currently got this;

S609 Navigation System Professional
S612 BMW Assist
S615 Extended BMW Online Information
S616 BMW Online
S620 Voice Control
S633 Preparation, Mobile Phone, Business
S672 CD Changer For 6 CDs
S698 Area-Code 2 For DVD
S6AA BMW TeleServices
S6AB Control, Teleservices

It's a 2010 LCI Model, so guessing that is no combox, not picked the car up yet so not checked if it has a USB socket in the armrest either.

Anyhow, So the question being, if I went for something like this;

https://bavarian-automotive.co.uk/pr...rplay-retrofit

Would that solve the need to bother with a combox?

I did like the RTTI on my F30, but not sure if you can get that for the E90?

Thank you in advance!

I helped my son fit exactly that in your link to his lci touring a few weeks ago and it’s very good. It’s all plug and play so no worries about comboxes. The hardest part of the instal was trying to get all the additional wiring behind the head unit. It’s fiddly but doable. He’s very happy with it.

The combox came in mid/late 2010, so my 60 plate 330d has one, it's option S6VC and you don't actually need a USB in the centre arm rest, mine hasn't got one, just the glovebox USB.

However, if you fit an MMI box like the link above you don't really need a combox.

I upgraded my CCC to CIC iDrive a few years ago and although it was coded for a combox at the time I couldnt justify the extra 500 for it.
This looks ideal! It should work with my upgraded CIC unit shouldn't it?

Yes this is just a plug & play add-on for CIC, there are a few companies doing a similar MMI box.
