I have fancy german anti seize paste here, and regular zinc, and copper.
green grease has shown to last longest in my experience.

I suppose if someone wanted one cheap they could take these pieces to the local muffler shop and have them blobberate welds onto it like I did for a 12 pack.

For what the real tool costs you could buy a welder at harbor freight for twice the cost and then own a shitty welder so you can use it to make new tools in the future.

I wish I saw this thread some time ago.
Here I foolishly thought that I would be done with my car this past weekend and I ran into this issue with reinstalling the spindles.
Looks like I'll need to find a suitable tool a wait for a week or two for it to arrive. The method above will not give me enough depth to pull the axle through as on one side, it won't go even half way in, plus I don't have an extra nut and would have to order one anyway.
Incredibly frustrating.
