Does 128i muffler fit 328i/328xi?
As the title states, does anyone know whether they would be "somewhat" interchangeable? By somewhat I mean whether they have at least the same hanger locations even if the pipe connection needs to be adapted.
Thanks. |

Read through this post from 1Addicts.
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1145417 Although the OP is asking the opposite (328 muffler swap to 128), it is obvious there will be some fitment modifications that will need to be done. It is mentioned in the thread by one of the posters that the 128 muffler is slightly smaller than the stock 328 so I’m sure there will be fitment modifications. It may be easier swapping the 128 to your 328, but you would have to talk to a muffler shop to determine if it’s worth it or to just simply go straight swap with an aftermarket muffler (i.e. Borla, Magna Flow, BMW PE, etc..). Of course, it all depends on your budget and how much louder you want your ride.

Basically, he says that 128i muffler is a bit louder and 135i muffler is louder still, so that may be the better option if I'm going to modify anything on the muffler. The reason I'm investigating this option is because the 128i PE is cheaper than 328i version. Plus the 128i is lighter. But yes, it appears that it would need the hangers relocated and some other adapter pipe welde on to mate to 328i center section. Here's what they look like for anyone else reading the thread: 128i/135i on top, 328i on the bottom. |

I'll be attempting this very soon. Though if someone beats me to it, please by all means tell me how it goes lol.
Also check my thread in the exhaust section

Welp, just picked up a 135i full exhaust today, for my 330i. Intended to just get the axleback but the guy just gave me the whole downpipe-back system so it'll be interesting to see how much can be reused. No clue about the difference in overall system dimensions and all.
