Bad transfer case

Looks like it spun the gears around and now there’s no teeth to move it.

What kind of advice are you looking for? Best bet at that point is to buy a used one in good shape and replace it.

this exact thing happened to me. a needle bearing in the clutch pack disintegrated, allowing the clutch to "over-compress" which in turn allows that gear to go too far. there are kits to rebuild the clutch, but i recall finding it was cheaper to just find a used one on ebay.

here's what happened to mine:

Wow, that is amazing! I should hopefully be ripping mine apart this weekend. Is that bearing inside the t-case?

yes. here's a diagram: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-f...07/ATC-300.jpg

I believe it is contained within the #12 assembly. could also be #11. it it within the clutch stackup on that side

Got it, I knew I hadn't seen that on the diagram. My #43 is going out, just has some play so hopefully nothing else is in bad shape.

Unfortunately some other things came up and I didn't get to work on it and I probably won't be this weekend either. I want to get it pulled and opened up so I can order parts, so maybe I can squeak it in some night.

Bearing noise in transfer case

I have a 2008 335xi and have a bearing noise that sounds like it is coming from the input bearing in the transfer case. Planning on taking it apart this weekend. I will post pics as I go.....

Was there any grinding or any noise at all. I'm occasionally getting the 4x4 light but once i turn the car off and on it goes away. My alignment is way off though due to coilover installation and m3 rear control arms and heard real bad alignment can trigger it.

I'm wondering if this is what happened to mine (or maybe transfer case actuator? or is this the same thing)

A few months ago, as soon as the car started moving (or I went into gear) I got the lights and notifications on I-drive AWD, DSC, 4x4, Brake malfunction. Car has been only RWD ever since.

Wondering if this is the most likely option of what went wrong? or possible other options? Any other symptoms of what else was going on with yours before you confirmed it was this?

I would try the worm gear first. Had the drivetrain been making grinding noises prior to that? Mine was getting pretty noisy and still hadn't thrown any codes.
