I feel really good about this product.
Very good news, technology is getting better everyday, requiring less maintenance and working better...

I knew that the ring and pinion was different but didn't think that the differential was actually different.

Are you saying that Quaife has a completely different unit for the newer autos rather than the older autos?

Interesting because that wasn't the impression that I got when I talked with them.
So I guess the Wavetrac works with all 135i/335i Manuals, and all 135/335i autos except for the newer ones.

It would seem like they would be working on something for the newer Auto diffs if they've already came up with the other diff.

Sorry, for the selfish question. So a 2006 330i MT would work fine with this diff? And pretty much any diff currently available for E90s at this point, right?

No, sorry. I meant for the 335i. I edited the post.
330s have different rear ends.

This is the last mod I have to do! Just received my IC, OC on the way.

So the question is, who can install this on my welded diff (M/T April 2007 build)? Any shop recommendations in the East Coast? And how much am I looking at for the installation.

Would be interested to try one, it's disappointing they only have the version for the early 335i manual. Bad choice by them to go into production with that!

I would imagine the performance would be similar to the Quaife, but I didn't see anywhere what bias ratio they promise.

I like the design, and I think the prices looked good. However, the support you would get from Autotech doesn't give the same breadth of product that Quaife has.

Also, I wonder how durable their design is. It's not really proven itself yet.

It's been used as a front diff in evos for a little while now.

Haven't found a single complaint about it yet. Most people mention how much of an improvement it is with 2 in the dirt (i.e. right or left half of the car off-road).

I don't understand why you keep saying that. Won't it fit the early autos as well? I thought you only said that the newer autos were different.
Also, from what I've been finding out lately, it's becoming more and more possible to work with the welded ring gears.

Depends on the dimensions of the unit.

There are a few Quaife versions that are commonly installed into 335's, each with a different size.
(I believe they were something like, QDF10N, QDF8N, QDF13N?)

Some require a bit of shaving on the inside of the carrier to install properly.

It's possible that the Wavetrac would require some shaving too, if it's actually too large.

According to Wavetrac, the diff will work for the bolt on ring-gear Autos. Hopefully there will be a group buy soon either through WaveTrac or a vendor like Harold!

It is a direct replacement for bolt on ring-gear models.
Obviously for welded ring-gear diffs you would have to source a R&P.
HP Autoworks may a have a solution for you if you need to source parts (if yours is welded).
Hope this helps,
Thanks

Hi,

I have a 2008 BMW e92 335 STEP and my production date is on or after Sept '07 with the following VIN: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Would the WaveTrac work in my case?

Thanks.

Just curious on this but does this change the gear ratios etc. I thought that the manual and auto's had different ratios

Also, as the OP posted, has anyone here try this yet? I'd be interested in this but as I have an auto, want to know what's going to change... before i install it on my car (for once )
