EKP3 plug and play overheating solution

Is there any market for an EKP3 with heat sinks, thermal pad upgrade, and a fan attachment that comes with simple instructions to install? I am willing to produce them for those in need especially as more and more owners demand higher fueling requirements.

Not sure there is a huge market for it since its a super easy DIY with parts easily sourceable thru amazon.

Not to mention replacing the EKPM requires it to be recoded which is more of a pain than doing the actual DIY yourself.

Any EKP that has previously been used on a N54 will not need to be coded.

I thought here was already someone doing just what you are talking about....I think there are even some posts on here from him. He sells a kit that comes with a fan and some other stuff.

Hi friends,

today I replaced my original E90 EKPM3 7218339, by used EKPM3 7276046 without any coding needing. No errors, no failures. Plug and play.

My car's engine was stoping in motion without any reason, no troublecodes, no errors. But I will the test car outside my garage tomorrow.
I turned on the engine, It worked witout any problems after the swap, readings with NT510 with BMW software ok.

Best regards,

Paulo

My engine died once the other day for the first time while lightly driving at 40mph. Wouldn't crank back over for about 15 minutes. Have a new BimmerGeeks cable on order so I can read codes from EKP module. I suspect I have the same issue with overheating/dying EKP module.

When doing research I've seen some DIY jobs with people putting motherboard thermal strips on the back of the EKP silicon where it meets the backing. Maybe try that. Also saw some guy put a small laptop-esque fan attached to his module with some custom splicing - seems like more effort/risk than it's worth unless you are pushing the stock fuel module way past it's limits.

This is the intent of my efforts. A lot of owners are pushing more power and this sort of thing can happen even with a walbro 450 pushing ethanol. Cooling the EKP will help prevent getting stranded as such. Temperature delta data is going to be collected soon to see the real effects of the cooling.

I would say the best option would probably just be to use those motherboard thermal strips on the back of the EKP's PCB board. Those strips will transfer the heat to that aluminum mounting point for the EKP module, should have quite a decent amount of cooling potential. Given the EKP is fine and not on it's way out.

Sorry for the super long wait. I sold my car and was promised help testing with a friend but that never happened. A like-minded individual has offered to help and after much brainstorming we have a plan in motion. Over the coming weeks we will be temperature testing an EKPM3 with controlled and repeatable data collection in both factory and modified units to see the improvements. We are also looking into clean wiring (literally just a power and ground) that looks good and works flawlessly. No vampire clips necessary! No splicing!
