ER Chargepipe installed - impressions

Helix Bimmersport in Philly installed my ER polished charge pipe and BMS Stage II tune yesterday - Eric is a great guy and does good work.

The charge pipe has an OEM fit and is well made. Eric said it was a little tight but otherwise was uneventful. The stock plastic one - mother of god, it's a toy, it has no business being in a 335. I wouldn't even trust that with stock boost.

I'm impressed with the BMS Stage II tune. I put it in Map 2 as I have the AR 4" downpipe (BMS says 14.5 PSI but I haven't measured), it pulls like a mofo. The power delivery is wonderfully linear - it's like stock only has a lot more power. And it holds the boosts between shifts.

Overall I am quite pleased!

Good stuff sir, always enjoy your posts.

Any specific reason why you choose ER over other brands?

Thank you sir, that is quite a compliment

I chose the ER for two reasons; one because it offered two meth bungs; no one else did when I bought it two months ago (haven't checked if another company started doing that). It's kind of a mute point now as I have decided against meth.

Secondly I preferred the ER because it replicated the stock fitment; some other charge pipes like the ETS one use silicone couplers. I have not read of reported issues with that implementation; however I am an OEM+ guy and stick with how BMW does things if at all possible.

Both ETS and ER have done track duty without issue so I don't think you can make a mistake getting either:

Naturally I'll recommend the ER as that is the only one I have experience with.

Thank you! Did you get around to installing the Performance Exhaust?

Thanks for posting. The ER pipe is definitely very popular on the N55 so you are in good company.

Looking good CJ. I knew you would be happy with stage 2. Happy you were finally able to install it!

Eric, Alex and the guys at Helix hooked me up with the install a few months back. Nothing but great things to say. Mike@n54tunning sold me the parts also. Another great person to work with.

Hope to see you and that beautiful ride real soon!

It's one of the rare instances where the OEM part is subpar AND BMW doesn't offer a better one. The ER one is as close as possible OEM spec.

6AT cars hold boost between shifts, 6MT close throttle thus discharge a portion on it, the faster you shift a manual the more boost you keep.

OP: good review, sorry to be OT but last pic, damn those performance BMW wheels are awesome on your car!

Thanks for the clarification on holding boost. I noticed that with stock, if I'd press the gas and let off I could hear the blow-off. Now that's gone and there's a more linear throttle response after shifting into the next gear.

Here's another pic of the wheels - full thread here which I posted just yesterday!

PM if you need help w/ suspension or differential modding.

I am still on stock shocks/springs but not for long, I'm getting a track-oriented kit installed hopefully by June.

Question - does anyone know what the default lagfix value of this Stage II tune is?
