The storing of time and presets might just be a wiring issue. Many wires that appear to be "constant" go to sleep after half an hour.

I had to hunt for the right wire on my double Din install, the one that plugs into harness by default had this issue as well.

Those issues are all sorted with the firmware update and correct settings. No need to run a fuse tap to the BATT input.
Radio data is not lost.
Time is restored automatically (I think it updates itself via radio RDS which may not be available in all regions).
Sound is a huge improvement over the base unit.

Scanspeak. I'm considering purchasing this unit but I'd like your input. I've had a Eonon (5150) in my E46. It was cool but real leggy and crashed a lot. I soon replaced it with a Pioneer. I now also own a E92 and I like the Eonon for the factory look. Can you tell me how it's been working now that you've had it in for some time? Is it stable? How's the Bluetooth sound quality with phone calls? Can the person on the other end hear you well? Another question I have is regarding the door/system chime. From your video it sounds like it's not the factory chime. I just ordered an adapter made by Metra called the AXXESS LC-BMRC-01 which is a unit that retains the chime. Are you familiar with this and can it be put in conjunction with the Eonon harness? I remember there was a couple of tricks that had to be done during installation in order for the 5150 to work correctly. Is there anything I need to do with this besides a regular install? Thanks.

I don't think it'll work with idrive. Maybe someone else can confirm.

Think about it you would have no idrive and a big dead screen in the
middle of the dash unless you are a electronic wiz and can put another
screen in and slave it to the head unit. Also you would loose all idrive functions and the selector in the
middle of the console would be dead .
I have only seen this done once on this board by a guy that owns a shop
here . Its not practical .
If you have idrive and you want something better look into the bimmeretrofits
kits but they are easily 4 times as expensive. Called the NBT.
Also if you have L7 the only head unit that works with that is the dynavin
N6 with L7 adpater also only good for non idrive cars.

Linx, just to be clear I did not make that Youtube video.
I did however install the GA7165 into my E92.

Overall I'm very happy with it.
Bluetooth for music and phone calls sounds fine to me.
The chime changes to a different tone.
I installed the iGo Map software purchased on Ebay.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the Metra unit.

Installation is pretty straight forward, just be sure to file the edges of the HVAC smooth and remove the metal clips or it won't fit too good.

Also update the player firmware if you're having issues with it retaining the time or radio.

The only thing I wish it had was Apple Carplay - hopefully there will be an app in the future.

The GA7165 is definitely ONLY for non-I-Drive setups.

Hows the fit around the bottom of the HVAC controls? Does it stick out/down? Can you take some closer pictures? It doesnt seem as good of a fit at the Dynavin N6.

N6 gets the good fit by loosing the dvd player
which now is kind of useless and obsolete . I imagine all these dynavin
clones fit like the old dynavin did with overhang at the bottom. Yeah there are some good features but I wonder if they shortchanged the quality of the sound. Do any of these units have a HD fm radio receiver?

I've seen videos/photos where you actually have to remove bar the contains the seat warmer/park assist buttons as well. so that the unit can fit.

Eonon then also sell you a new ash tray unit which gives you space to move those buttons to. However, the buttons do become useless because you can control both the seat warmers and park assist via the Eonon screen. JD Cars on Youtube even tested it on the screen without the buttons wired up and they still functioned. So your option is to either just hide those buttons behind the unit or move them to the ashtray.

And yes it does stick a little bit out from the bottom onto the ashtray so it is not a 100% perfect fit

No idea, best to email Eonon, they replied to me within 24 hours.
One would assume they would appear on the screen if the car is fitted with it.
