hate aw sometimes! rear end cleaning ;(

had to sit there for 4 plus hrs using clay bar in order to remove all the oil/exhaust (i guess) that gets all over the rear.... this stuff does not come out.. any tips besides the clay?

it was a while since the last wash so i guess i shouldn't complain... but i risk putting slight scratches in w the clay bar

Titanium Silver isn't any better. I washed my car a few days ago and noticed a lot of black spots on my rear bumper and trunk.
I did not have much time to clean it, but next time I am going to use Poorboy's Bug&Squash.

AW and TiAG are the easiest to maintain.

May want to try some TAW for the spots though. If that doesn't work, try some clay.

Is the black material residue from a tire dressing? Crap tire dressings or over applications can result in black crap all over the rear end. Just a thought.

Yep! This stuff: http://www.detailedimage.com/P21S-M1...000-ml-Kit-S1/. It may save you some time sitting there with clay.

A good friend of mine has an '07 328 in AW and, since she isn't much of a car person, rarely gets it washed. Maybe once a month through a tunnel wash, at best. But I've never seen any black residue or anything on her car before.

A lot of the dirt and grime is also due to various road gunk that gets kicked up from behind the car during driving. You will obviously see it more on a lighter colored car, but the paint on the rear bumber and trunk will always be rougher no matter what color it is. The clay bar should definitely make it smooth again and polish the bumper to get the remaining dirt out.

clean the area with a degreaser, TAW, etc. clay it, then polish it. After that, apply a couple coats of wax to make future cleaning easier and faster! reapply as necessary!

That's not true. My 328i gets black spots and oil from the exhaust.

Yep, I have to clean the rear end of the fiance's AW 128i (non-turbo). It takes a few hours to clay the entire car, but I keep the finish well maintained. I agree though, AW takes forever to clay because you can actually see every little impurity in the paint.

Plus side is that swirls are near impossible to see on the color, so I get to spend less time on paint correction. It all evens out in the end.

Absolutely not. My M3 also has the same problem.

It's likely due to aerodynamics. After you drive, all the crap gets to the back.. specially when it's raining or wet. As a result, all the dirt ends up in the back and gets stuck. All colors have it, it's just that you see it easily in the light colors.

Only solution is to use good wax/seal and was your car often (or at least use QD when you see dirt).

A lot of stuff gets on the back. When it rains as I drive, my rear is hardly wet until I come to about 30mph when the rain can actually hit the rear. The rear bumper is always dirty, just put a few more coats on the rear than you do on the rest of the car.

Do you have a catless exhaust?

IF you want a more = amount of exhaust coming out of both tips, do the golf tee mod.
