Steering Wheel Peeling

I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseam. But I have a 2006 330i with sport package where the rubber coating on the steering wheel is coming off. There's just black plastic underneath. Has anyone just peeled off all of the rubber? Is it hard to do? Worth it? Has anyone got any pics of what it looks like after?

If I wanted to buy the part, any links to where I could get it? Any other suggestions? What I don't want is to get it replaced and just have it start peeling again in a few months. Are the newer versions any better?

I'd be happy to post pics of my steering wheel if anyone would like to see. Thanks in advance.
