Anyone in SoCal W/ Catless DP?

Hey guys and gals, as of now I have the JB4 Stage 2, Injen Intake, and CPe Chargepipe on my car. So next performance mod on the list is a downpipe. I've been having trouble deciding if I should go catless or not. I'm obviously doing it for the performance gains but I care about the smell more than the gains.

I have never smelled either catless or catted DP , but I figured if the catless is too much, then I'll go with catted and live with how much smell that one makes because I really want to run stage 2.

So if there is anyone in SoCal with some free time thatI can meet up with "I will drive to you". And if you can startup and rev your car a little for me, and for you to drive in front of me just around the block so I can smell it.

PM me or just comment. Either way.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Really, what about when your driving. Don't the cars behind you smell it?

Really? But I thought you said when you had your stock exhaust it was worse. I thought that your single pipe and the really packed muffler you have are what make the smell less? BTW I installed the Chargepipe myself. Everything went great! Thanks again!

You don't happen to workout at the SS 24 Hour Fitness do you? I think I've seen your car.

smell is something you get use to once you feel the power and you hear the tone. people driving behind you will definitely notice if there windows are down. both my cousin (amans_e90) and i have berk downpipes on our cars. i drive behind him usually and it always smells bad when my windows are down. you get use to it though

Yea I think after reading this imma go with catted DP's. I'll still get to run stage 2 is all I care about. A little less HP, I'll be fine with.

The smell is absolutely horrendous. I like to mod my car with OEM+ and more on the conservative side. But after putting my Raceland catless dps on, not only did the car smell horrible, but there was white smoke coming out of the front fender area after putting the brakes on my car and coming to a complete stop. I will never run catless DPS again, it was too loud for my taste anyway, really takes the "class" away from your BMW. Just my opinion. I'm looking for a set of catted dps, not as much performance, but no issues with smell/passing smog/white smoke.

Wow now your scaring me....I know I previously had said I'm planning on going catted. But I already ordered catless. I guess I'll just have to install it and find out for myself. If it's that bad, I might have a muffler shop put in a small cat....but thanks for your input.

I'm of the opposite opinion ... I've been enjoying my catless DP for many months now. I get white smoke occasionally and it does smell, but I don't mind. Mike, do you cut grass with a gasoline lawnmower? It's exactly like that. You'll smell it whenever you're stopped.

The N55 engine sounds fantastic with a DP and stock exhaust. I like the AR 4" DP or the BMS 3.5".

Really!?!?! Wow talk about getting mixed answers. If what your saying is true. I will be very happy. I should get my DP in on Tuesday. So well see. Thanks for your input. I honestly want the extra power too. So I think it will be a good trade-off.

Have you posted in the California regional forum? You might get more of a response.

Perhaps a meet is nearby. If there's not at least one catless BMW at any given Bimmerpost meet, something is wrong lol.

I have a single 3.5' Dp that tapers down to a single 3' midpipe... basically a full straight pipe. Besides the sound ( which is a completely different thread) It reeks catless. when I say "reeks" I mean really strong smell. But the power gains are far more than worth it
