I think to answer the original question as well - the N53/N54 HPFP were available to order on two part numbers. One was the actual part number and one was the warranty party number. Both parts were exactly the same and would arrive in the same box with the actual part number on the box but the warranty part was half the cost of the non warranty part. This warranty part is no longer continued. I think I got one of the last HPFP available on the warranty part number in Europe a year or so ago.

I think the same thing applied with the injectors for the N54. There is or at least was two part numbers which were the same part, however one was significantly cheaper than the other. Might still be available in the US.

Shame it never extended to cover the N53 injectors though.

Yeah pretty sure the n54, n53 and earlier n55 were exactly the same HPFP. Interesting about the warranty pricing!

Anyone else confirmed by testing that N54 injectors work on N53? I remember reading on bimmerprof, that N54 index 12 (N53 stops at index 11) had different spray pattern for pollution management.

Don't know for sure, but I've read on forums that the N54 injectors overfuel if used on the N53 engine. They're designed for much more fuel-hungry turbo motors like the N54.

Just for info, your looking at around £1500 for Index 12 N54 injectors (x6)

The consumption is about 7L/100km in 80-120km/h cruise, 11.5L/100km 28km average speed in city area. The flow rate is relatively high. I tuned my n53b30 to 296ps 350nm with stratified charge. No EGR DPF delete.

Others have recently reported non problematic mixing of index-12's with other index #'s even within the same bank! I've non problematically replaced used injectors with used injectors without replacing couplers or teflon seals on N54.

I will consider this exchange as well. Local stealership wants a fortune to replace 6 of ...9048. Thanks

thats nice, but i think n53 grey injectors can't be mixed with n54 black injectors in the same bank. the injectors in bank1 and bank2 should be same color.

Your original query is from 2017. Still contemplating which injector to go with?

No, in fact i'd forgotten that i'd opened the original thread. It was more out of interest actually, the comparison of n53/54 injectors. But my n53 has been happily (touch wood!) running index 11 n53 injectors since around 2016 though I guess i'm probably on borrowed time especially as i do mostly very short trips.

Requiring individual coding they're either going to work in a cylinder or they're not, regardless of bank placement.

Index 12 in single bank?

Anyone tried and have setup with index 11 Vs 12 in separate banks?

I doubt it, because all the recommendations I've seen say you must replace all six if swapping from index 11 to index 12...

If you wade through the forums, like i have done, you`ll come across a 100 posts saying don`t mix (as that`s what bmw says) and then a few post of people who have mixed saying the car is running absolutely fine.

I`m on the side of mixing being fine seeing as you have to code each injector individually anyway and tell the car what the flow rate of that injector is. So that being the case, the car must be designed to alter the fuel load of each injector per that coding.

Anyway, just saying people have done it and when looking into this I didn`t find one single post saying it had caused an issue.

I'd try it. My exhaust is sootier than normal after a long run and i think thats a sign of injectors so i may be on the lookout for n54 index 12 to go with my existing index 11 soon

The reason BMW says not to mix is that, from what I understand, the flow rates of the injectors are different of index 11 vs index 10 and below N53 injectors.
The reason this is important is because the ECU can only really control lambda in banks - you inky have oneambda sensor per 3 cylinders.
The ECU has the ability to smooth out individual cylinders by using the crankcase speed sensor to measure time between firing events, a slow acceleration after one cylinder fires and will adjust the injector timing to suit and to ensure that the engine runs smoothly. These are often the values that, when injectors start to fail, are outside of the permitted range and throw up fault codes for smooth running etc.
The codes on the injectors basically give the ECU a bit of a head start with those smooth running values and give it information about the flow rate relative to ideal.
Fundamentally, the ECU will expect the basic flow rate of the injector to be the same across all cylinders and if they are not, it could trigger a fault code.
It isn't ideal to have the different N53 injectors I the same banks but not catastrophic. However I wouldn't advise mixing N54 injectors with N53 in the same bank. Mixing in separate banks would be possible but probably not advisable.

So the conclusion here since N53 Index 11 injectors are on back order is we're good to go on N54 Index 12, in an N53?

Anybody able to confirm?

Yes I can. Fitted some weeks ago (index 12 N54 injectors in an N53 engine) and all good.

Great, I suppose the next step is to find an independant who will program the injectors, since I doubt BMW will be happy to program the "wrong" injectors

Ask your indy not only to code the injectors, but clear all adaptations.
