I'd expect it to be the other way round with the auto being heavier!?

This...

It's very easy to tell visually by looking through the wheel.

330mm caliper

348mm caliper

Perhaps it was just a spec thing, “would you like better brakes sir/madam?”.
I’ve got the original bills of sale with all the options listed for my car and there’s no mention of brakes though.

Do you or anyone you know have any decent coding software? I need my SOS coding out but it can't be done with Carly and I can't find anyone locally who can do it. There's a case of beer or whatever in it for you
Off topic but in case you're still struggling with this, it's easy to sort out using NCS Expert. Just add "+TELD" to your FA (vehicle order) and code the cluster and TCM. +TELD is a service code BMW added specifically for this task, it will deactivate a bunch of options in the above modules to completely remove the SOS call functionality and thus get rid of the error message.

We tried that, and it didn't work. Also tried manually coding out a couple of other options that seemed to be related, again with no success.

Have since been advised that +TELD doesn't always work, in which case -TELD might do the trick. But not had the opportunity to try it out - it's a bit of a drive for a 'try and see'.
