If you buy the SWS 8xi shallow mount speakers (above), they are also 2 ohm, and they fit directly into the sub enclosure under your seat. You need a big Torx driver/socket to remove the seat (size 50?), plus a small Phillips head screw driver, plus a small Torx head driver to then remove the grill that covers the sub, then the subwoofer itself. Remove your stock sub. The speaker wire connects with a small plug to the stock unit, so you have to cut and strip the speaker wire. Before installation, you should connect a decent length of speaker wire to the SWS speaker terminals, then attach those wires to the stock wires in the car. Screw down the speaker, replace the grill. Test the connection, then replace the seat.

I didn't even have to remove the seat from the car, I just leaned it way back and held it up on a plastic jug while working on the speaker.

If you get the SWS 4 ohm speakers (which are more versatile for later amp changes), they are not as shallow, so you have to build a spacer to hold them up a little or they will hit the bottom of the sub enclosure.

All this said, the added oomph of just the SWS subs wasn't enough, so on the advice of folks here, I'm getting a new amp (Alpine PDX-5) and sub box installed next week, plus some new speakers. The underseat subs will be replaced with the 6.5" midrange drivers from a 3 way component set. I'll post a review of the whole thing when done.
let me know when your done. and i pm you if i need anyhelp =) i would also like to change out all my logic 7 speaker.

as for group buy i dont think there is any vendor on e90post. try contacting the sws8 company!

So let me get this.. Removing the seat you get to the sub, you remove the old sub (1 under each seat) and replace them with these (2ohm) sws subs... add speaker wire to the sws's that attach to the wire ends you cut on the stock sub connection. It uses the stock amp?

They fit perfect, and sound better and that's it?

On a 1-10 for people that did this, how much better was it over stock? I am definitely interested.

So you tried these subs with the stock amp? I understand they probably need more power to really sound good, but how much better (or worse) did they sound running off the factory amp compared to the stock subs?

either way, I may put my name on the group buy for these.

Boostin335, love that avatar.

I put in the 2 ohm version without an amp. It honestly was not worth the money to do that alone. It was just "a tad" bit better. If you're going to later get an amp, then get the 4 ohm version (so I've been told). Easy install, however.

If I were keeping the stock head unit and planning to eventually get a new amp, then I would swap the subs for the Earthquakes.

THANK YOU !

I will hold off and just get an amp all at once.. don't have the money right now to do it all and there is really no point in just getting the 2 ohm, if i should get 4 ohm with an aftermarket amp.

Also thanks for talking about my avatar, forgot to change it when I came back to activity on this site. Now i have it of my gf

That's your girlfriend? Riiiiight. :-)

You can prove it, though, by posting a new pic of her flashing a peace sign or wearing a BMW cap. Hey, or just send me some pics of her doing... um... some things I might mention in a PM. !!!
