when your fuel pump goes to shit while you are climbing the incline from the cross island onto the throgs neck and 4 people behind you are honking the shit out of you and your car is about to stall out - tell me that you aren't going to be dramatic.

if they want to downgrade me to a 328i coupe i'd consider it. the fuel pump dying and the car slowing down with my foot on the floor after a downshift going uphill was bad. the gasoline fumes coming through the air vents to the point where I couldn't use them was freaky. I told the SA that I was going to put a no smoking sign on my hood. he basically acknowledged that there was fuel leaking from the fuel rail/lines under the hood and it could have very easily ignited.

I know most can't say they've had amazing dealership experiences, but let me tell everyone that if you come into the dealer with a car that can basically blow up and they know it, they are super, SUPER nice to you.

im assuming you guys have been on that road.

i was before the Bell Blvd. exit and merged into the middle lane. car went into limp mode. i was in the right lane - which is the exit lane. so a queue of cars lined up behind my slow ass and followed me up that incline.

The incline has car for 1.5 car, so I could not move over to the right and have people pass me. I also believed that if i stopped the car the momentum would be gone and there would be NO way i would make it up that hill.

Luckily, i made it through the tolls w/the hazards on in the right lane. Pulled over and turned car off and on again and everything reset and i sped home.

It sucked, but it is part of the ownership!

I'm happy that my appointment is tomorrow, I'll beat the masses to the HPFP rush. Should be interesting to see how the SA react when I come in after the news story since they gave me such a runaround when I came in a month ago and all they would do was the reprograming.

About f U CKIN time BMW. it only took 3 years for you to do the right thing.

Now lets see how they will determine which cars needs a new pump. I'll bet you'll get the same old shiet by the dealers that you only need the software update.

My car went in for long cranks at around 7K and they said i only needed the updated software and sent me on my way. Car drove normal but the cold starts were still random. Not really long cranks but longer than usual at times. Luckily i knew someone that worked at the dealership and got me a new pump at my next visit by rigging the hpfp test to fail. My car never threw any hpfp codes and normally would not have qualified for a new pump but yet after i got the new 933 revision the car feels even better than before. Makes you wonder if the power your car is putting down is being held back any by a weaker hpfp that is on its way out.

Should have turned the car off and on while you were coasting...

"Based on the individual service history of the vehicle, the action will entail replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump and/or a software update".

They have already been doing this for a while, what's so different?

But at least it provides some comfort to original pump owners that have yet to have symptoms from getting caught in a bad situation.

Agreed!! As for us, 933/943 pump owners, I guess it's Russian Roulette!

I'm going to wait for my SA to call me back later today and tell me what they're going to do with my car. I wonder if he'll tell me that my fuel pump will be replaced or not. Anybody want to take bets?
