Where does a stock heated steering wheel draw its power from? Is it an option in the retrofit? Thanks

The clockspring (angle sensor) for a heated steering wheel has a power cable to provide power to the heated wheel.
The standard clockspring doesn't have that cable (usually blue connector).
That's why you need a clockspring that has that cable for this retrofit.

I have a 2009 e90, without heated wheel. I have procured a heated sport steering wheel, clockspring with blue connector, and the lower column trim with heater button.

Can anyone please clarify if in the following picture, the power connections that i have marked are correct?

Thanks!

I don’t know if this was answered but does a car with heated steering wheel option from factory have it’s own fuse in fuse box? Also, can someone be a little more specific with the wiring. Iv got everything ready just can’t figure out what he means with the wiring. Thanks

I'll be posting detailed steps of how I got it working.
Short story: follow the original DIY post. Regardless if you got the steering wheel as a whole or putting it together from parts. And regardless if you see the two yellow wires on the clockspring harneess or if they are empty.

Wasn't planning on being funny at all. I said I'm sorry.
I know it can be frustrating when you are trying to finish a retrofit and not knowing how exactly to proceed, but be patient

Go back and read the guide multiple time until you memorize each image and word, then you will understand it.

I know I had to do that on the paddles retrofit.

You will now never buy a car without a heated steering wheel.

Amen to that.
Also if anyone in Calgary looking for a heated steering wheel, let me know. I have an ad posted in the Canadian classified section.

Do you mind sharing what fuse you ended tapping into? I'm trying to get an ignition switched one instead of remembering every time to turn of the button before shutting the car off

Hahaha! I know! - I had an E9x before this one, which had a heated sport wheel. Unfortunately, it crashed. This one that i bought after, is full jam, but only option missing was heated steering, that was bugging me much!

I spliced in to the cigarette lighter wire under the centre console. I do not use that anyways, as i have my mobile charger plugged in to the armrest. 14AWG wire was used to do that. Stripped a little section, spiked through and soldered. There is a nice ground spot near the shifter as well, Just undo the torx and slip the -ve under that.

I'm curious if anyone with an M3 has done this retrofit - is there an M stitched wheel with heating that was offered? Searched a bit but didn't see one so far.
