UPDATE: Good news everyone !!!!

I took my car to the mechanic and they check the breaks & the suspension and there was no damage!!!
I only had to do the alignment

Also I call FL DOT and they open a case, and I was told that I should get a response by mail within 30-60 days... Let see

pics with new wheels

I am amazed that the car didn't sustain more damage. You were lucky!

Don't hold your breath on the FL DOT case, but good luck with it. The new wheels look great! Glad to see you are back in business, because those initial pictures were shockingly horrible.

the one time tire/wheel insurance from the dealer may have actually proven to be beneficial.

Exclamation Wow same thing just happened to my front passenger rim

Recently I hit a pothole and the whole inside lining of my wheel split exactly like yours. BMW did cover it so if this happens put up a little fight because there is clearly a defect with this wheel.

This happen at 3am I was going back home and I was a tired. I took the back road( I always take the highway, but I needed gas) this street is very narrow I was entering the curve and there was a pickup truck coming the opposite way, and well I got too close to the edge when I hit it I try not too lose control and the rear tire also fell into it, I had to drive like 100ft because I was in the middle of the road.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm going to jack up the car tomorrow and check if there is any damage to the brakes or the suspension if not I will probably get gunmetal CSL's but if I see any damage I will file a claim with my insurance.

here is a pic of the pothole, is really big , I when back to see it today and is more than 9 inch deep with a very sharp edge .
but I'm just clad that I'm o.k and that there wasn't any upcoming traffic, and well the pickup did not even bother stopping...
What? This pothole is nothing. I have many more potholes on the roads I take and I drive through it on a daily basis. I cannot go arround. All the road is like that and you cannot even complain to the city. Corruption brings bad contractors. Bad contractors make bad road so that they come again and again and again year after year to fill the potholes with bad work.
Wost case scenario is driving under the rain, you cannot see the potholes and you take everyone of them!
I fall in these potholes on a daily basis. It damages shock absorbers, springs and more badly the suspension.
Rims are bent, tires are blown out, but never had a rim broken. I saw that in a car that had a frontal accident hitting a wall. But not in a pothole? Must be a manufacturing defect or a very specific unlucky angle when it hit the wall of the pothole.

What makes it worse is that the new BMWs are built with a chassis and suspension in aluminium. These are very fragile and when hit hard they break and you cannot repair them. You must replace them with a brand new part that costs 300 US$ and upward for every piece.

Talk about injustice?!

Tip: Dont run RFT and use 5 to 10 sizes more for tire thickness, example if you run 17" 225 45, use instead the 17" 225 50 or 17" 225 55. It absorbs shocks and ride confort is improved.

Any word from FL DOT? Are they reimbursing you for your wheels?

Makes you think after reading the posts here from fellow members.

I lost 2 of my rear wheels (one open crack dropped air pressure, one with 2 hairline cracks). I am glad I got rid of my RFT.

Hey guys.....I had the exact same thing happen to me....both of the rims on the driver's side cracked....exactly like that!!!!! The only thing is that I never ran over a pothole or anything at all!!! I will be contacting a law firm since I have found numerous cases with the same situation... Looks like a design flaw...

Now that you mention it...I'm getting new wheels soon, gotta wait for powder coat and shipping, when my wife sees the charge on the account, I'll tell her what happened...when she asks where the money came from I'll tell her I was still able to sell my jacked up wheels.
