Thumbs up My Upgraded Riss Racing Oil Catch Can...

so my occ has been installed for about 500 miles now and after seeing all these threads lately on oil leaking from the white adapter, i decided to check whats up with mine and i'm glad i did.

when i unscrewed the white adapter you can clearly see there is a bunch of oil on the thread and it is a complete mess in there. the other adapter however was pretty much clean. i guess one hose is for the oil and other is for clean ?

if i had left it unchecked, without a doubt the oil would seep out of the adapter. so with the help of mr. 5 and other threads i looked in my garage for clamps and boy did i hit the jackpot, a whole container full of them. so i dug through and picked the right clamp sizes.

i then followed mr. 5's idea and placed a rubber washer at the bottom of each white adapter piece. i tried to put the rubber washer on the thread but the washer was too big and wouldn't close; do they even sell such type of rubber washer for thread purposes?

i also upgraded the clamps that are on the catch can itself. now all the clamps are conveniently 8mm socket. i will check again on how everything is holding up in another 500-1000 miles to be on the safe side.

imho riss racing should have produced the kit as shown .

i only have two finalizing questions about this kit:
1. will the rubber hoses last? i'm asking this b/c rubber hoses aren't really a good choice for the job from the high temp from engine bay and hot oil inside the hose. shouldn't a silicon tube be used?
2. i broke the clips for the bypass hose with the sensor attatched (not the clip on the hose but on the actual charge pipe). is there anyway to replace the clip or do i have to replace that entire tube/chargepipe?
3. any idea why riss just didn't use a 1 piece adapter instead of two? maybe they couldn't find the right adapter?

What does the rubber washer do? I see the diagram you drew, but it doesn't make sense to me how the green color represents the washer. Shouldn't the washer be sitting flat in the white adaptor like you've shown on the previous picture?

TIA

Looks like mine. I added RTV to the threads, but the o-ring is a very good idea. One of them is cleaner then the other and should be as the clean one goes back to the intake.

I think his drawing is just shitty. lol The o-ring acts as a seal between the two white fittings to help prevent oil getting on the threads then further leaking out of the connectors. I would add some silicone on the threads to prevent any oil that does get by the o-ring to not leak out of the connectors through the threads.

EDIT: looking at the pic again, the flow is wrong. OCC is south.

I'm thinking that a flat rubber washer might have been better but if it works then that is the main thing.
Good job!

Thanks for the great post. I just got the catch can delivered this week and this will help me get it right the first time it is installed. I hope Riss Racing takes the user input and upgrades the product going forward, and even publishes the upgrade specs for people who purchased already to do the job themselves.

Won't in be version 3? Version 2 added the steel wool inside. Version 3 will need clamps and washers.

Can someone please state the washer and clamp sizes? That would be very helpful for those of us post-installation.

Thanks.

+1 This would be so helpful for us who use the car as a DD.

Anyone notice how warped and useless the donut washer gets when you torque down the drain bolt?

Yup. I couldn't find a flat rubber washer for the drain bold so I added a bit of RTV to the threads. You don't need to tighten it that tight. Just snug enough to seal.
