E90 325D Msport Front suspension went BANG! Help

I was driving approx. 30mhp when there was a loud bang from front drivers side wheel (felt like i'd hit a brick with the front wheel). Handling suffered and it started smoking - I limped it home but I'm an absolute novice when it comes to cars so just looked at the wheel and noticed it's dropped probably an inch (the wheel arch has dropped). Not sure if the smoke was tyre smoke or not but it was very pungent. Do any of you good people know what I should be telling the garage what has broken rather than them tell me how many things needing fixing whilst fleecing my wallet in the process?
Many thanks
Scotty

Sounds like a snapped coil spring. The smoke is potentially from your tyre if it was running because the ride height dropped

Exactly this, has happened to many of us on here. Hopefully you haven't driven too far with the damage.

Well the issue will be has there been any damage other than the broken spring and also what else do you replace whilst its apart. Ideally 2 new springs, possible shocks if yours are tired or old plus new mounts top and bottom etc.

Think mine was about £200 labour plus parts some of which I had already.

That burning smell was most likely your tyre, have a look at it when the wheel comes off. When the front coil snapped on mine it end up digging into sidewall which caused a blowout.
