Northern Lights
We have light to moderate cloud cover here, which is sad, because the clouds are red. I have to think the skies are showing some decent Aurora about now. Folks from towns not far from us have been posting pics, but all we can see is red cloud cover.

Saw them here, eastern TN, starting around 10pm. Was supposed to be 2-5 am Eastern time, but the forecasts of solar arrivals lately have been poor.
There may be some risk with this flurry of solar flares and CMEs, to satellites (GPS), networks and grid. Hard to find any forecasting on that which I would consider reliable. We’ll see over the next few days. Meanwhile, enjoying the show! |

Locally some people report seeing it better with a camera (even cell phone) or giving your eyes a few minutes to adjust to the darkness. I looked through my security camera that looks north and could see detail my eyes couldn’t pick up (camera is B/W at night)

We drove north a bit and found a dark area where we could see the whole sky. The clouds cleared briefly and we saw faint reds and greens, but like you said, you really need a camera to pull in the light. I didn't have a tripod for my big camera and my cell is an iPhone SE2, so not the top end camera that newer phones have.

Reporting from SE Michigan and can confirm seeing the Northern Lights. You can see it with the naked eye, but the iPhone pictures are better.
Pretty cool. So far my kids have seen the solar eclipse and now the Northern Lights! |

Amazing display last night. The picture does not do it justice.

Well damn. If they were showing in eastern TN, then I might have seen them in middle. But I fell asleep before 9PM CST. Kind of feel like I missed out on a once-in-a-lifetime event. Never would have thought I'd see an aurora. If media had played up that angle instead of the doom of total annihilation of electrical grids, I might have thought more ahead.

Ohio. Only 3 of the seven CMEs have hit so it may be even a bigger light show over the next few nights. We had a X class 5.3 flare last night, which is the strongest yet, will take a few days for the CME to get here.
