Just thinking outside the box a little here.

Has anyone ever considered taking the subs & their boxes out the car all together and put in another brand of sub?

I see powered subs & sub in boxes not powered but ready to go in 8" size.

Below is an example of an Alpine powered sub, which sells for $238.00 on Amazon.

What I don't know is if it would fit in the whole the current sub box sits in.

No, otherwise it would have been done already. As I told you already, underseat location really is only good for mid-bass as there is no room for any type of decent bass setup due to lack of space & volume.
