Is it possible to resell a GIAC flash by swapping DMEs?

Just wondering - would it be possible to sell a GIAC flash to someone just by switching DMEs?

the DWS encoding will eliminate your DME being used in another car. each DME is coded for the VIN during install ... no recourse..

feasibly, it is possible, if you get a dealer to code each ecu to the new car. probably expensive though and not worth it

Yes, that's what I'm asking - is it even possible? I'm thinking that if someone has an inside connection at a dealer and finds someone who's willing to swap DMEs to buy the tune, this might be one way (albeit probably a long shot) it could be done. I suppose another question would be, what exactly is involved in matching a VIN with a DME? If you think about it, dealers replace DMEs all the time and when they do that obviously it needs to be matched to the VIN. So I'm thinking why couldn't this be done with used DMEs? I suppose another question would be, in order to match a DME with a VIN does the DME have to be completely flashed over by BMW, i.e. overwriting the tune? In that case obviously it wouldn't work. And the other million dollar question would be, would GIAC support this; i.e. support transfer of ownership and all that comes with it. If all this could be somehow worked out it would be yet another selling point for GIAC.

well if you resell the car to someone modded just add up the price to it. Otherwise you can reach a deal with GIAC to get a discount on another car you reflash. I personally if i sell my car and get another one with the same engine i would just request to get it reflashed for free besides the cost of the work.
I mean what about you get your car stolen? or you wrack it? you bought a product so its on your name.

it is possible, i speculate it would cost between $100-200, however. like you said, ecu's go bad sometimes and dealers have to swap them out. the only thing i would worry about is how cool the dealer would be if the cars are under warranty. out of warranty however, should be no problem
