Turbo Question - Maintenance

Hey Guys,

My car is getting serviced in Monrovia, CA. I take it in for this clicking noise that sounds like a rattle after I let off the throttle. They are saying it is the actuators on the turbos....

My E90 has 43K on it, using Dinan S2 & JB+

1) I know about turbos, but perhaps not the ones on this car that well.
- Can this be true? What are the actuators for on the turbo?

2) Can they make this noise?
- I am under warranty, but I feel like the service contact is a f#$%ing tool^2.
- Typical dealer-douche

Any advice? If it is what it is, then fine, but the car performs fine.

Thanx,

Pissed off

Sounds like wastegate rattle. Do a search for it in this forum and you'll turn up tons of info. The actuators are a common first try at a fix.

+1, they will probably try to update your software first to fix it and you'll have to complain and go back again to have them actually replace the part.

I would advise uninstalling the JB+ when you take it in as well.

SOFTWARE UPDATE? wtf???

how would a software update fix a hardware problem?

also, if they do, will it erase my Dinan S2?

I caleld them ASAP to make sure I know what is going on.

I will also explain the wstegate rattle thing too.

thanx

Wastegate rattle is completely normal. They will try replacing actuators, updating your software (has to do with the wastegate positioning), and then if all else fails turbo swap

sorry for the newbie type question, but what does the "rattle" should like?

is it noticeable only near the turbos or through the exhaust? Out the back?

My exhaust has been making a rattle type sound from the day I picked it up as a CPO.
