Dumb beginner 335i question

So I recently bought my first car and I chose a 2007 335i sedan. When I purchased the car it was labeled as a i4 engine. I just had to ask, is this possible? I thought the 335i had an i6 engine and also is it true this car is turbocharged? I'm just getting into cars so I'm sorry for the dumb questions

Use a VIN decoder, just type in the last 7 digits of your VIN and it will tell you all the options your car has if your unsure
Engine should be "N54"

A 2007 335i is probably the worst car you could’ve purchased if you’re just getting into cars.

not if the car has a reasonable amount of mileage, was decently maintained, and he has the money or at least the desire to learn how to work on a car..

he already bought the car, therefore your comment was not necessary. why not welcome him to the forum and give him some tips instead?

OP, welcome! I don't know where you read I4, but it's a twin turbocharged I6. could you specify some details about your car such as maintenance history, mileage, share some pics, etc? does it need any work? are you looking to start modifying it, and is there anything specific you wanted to know?

I have an 07 and never had any major issues, the car is fbo/tuned and I drive it hard, just be up to date on maintenance.

An 07 335i is the best car he could've purchased***

07 are the year that came with forged internals. 600 - 700hp easy without having to worry about running into problems

Its a very handle tool to have lying around. You can code some options onto your car and can also diagnose it yourself saving you some money. Theres some additional features like DPF monitoring/regenerating and battery registering that could come in hand one day.

If you don't wanna buy it i'm sure theres many people a short drive away from you willing to do some coding for beer tokens.

Welcome to the forum. The engine is definitely a twin turbo I6, and boy are you gunna know it when you put your foot down!

Have a browse of the forums and any questions you have fire away, theres some very intelligent and helpful people here. I've saved a bunch of money through the DIY's etc.

Tires

Just got a nail in my tire and it was too big to patch so Instead of dropping 5-700 on 4 new tires right now. I needed it fixed ASAP and a local tire shop by my house got me right in and out within the hour. I moved the back to the front and got 2 new falken ziex ze329 for the back. Anyone have any experience with these?

No it's not. 07 isn't the only year with an N54. Nor is it the only car in BMWs line up with an N54.

It's stupid to say an 07 335i is the "BEST" car he could've purchased. The price delta on a similar 08 335i would be the same.

I agree. That's why 07 N54s can be had for 6500 with only 100k miles in any major metropolitan cities where BMWs are plentiful.

It's not that bad IMO if you have a good job and DIY knowledge. My 335is is my second car.

Oh and also if you don't need the car everyday to.

+1

I’d probably be worried about getting fired if I had to drive my 335 to work every day...

This is true. I get the spirit of the “worst car” post insofar that the OP seems to be quite unaware of what he has just purchased, which one could reasonably assume also means his knowledge of cars and mechanical inclination is minimal at best. Not the best car to start working on cars with, but at least by the end of his ownership he’ll be a BMW Master Mechanic

For anyone worried about those pesky breakdowns... Just buy a used Smart ForTwo, take it apart, and pack it into your trunk. You’ll never be stranded again.

Alternately you could freeze-dry the Smart car rather than disassembling it, but you’d need to carry quite a bit of water to rehydrate it, and you’d probably end up hydrolocking the engine. So I’d recommend Option A.

As far as the engine goes, the 07-08 have the best version of the n54 if we’re talking about reliability and capability. They came with forged internals that can handle insane power. I’m talking about the engine, not the parts that are attached to it (fuel pump, water pump, ect)
