Pros and Cons of a secondary cat delete?
I own a still-under-warranty cpo e92 328i and am taking the car in to get a resonator delete. I already have a custom muffler on the back that makes the car pretty loud, but I want more. I have been considering a secondary cat delete at the same time I get the resonator delete, but need to know what the pros and cons are from a warranty and legality point of view. I live in california, but am told that I will still pass the smog test if I do decide to get a secondary cat delete.
Thanks |

My friend has a muffler delete on his and I like the way it sounds, but the loudness between mine and his are almost indistinguishable. I want it to be really loud, without getting hit with a huge fine.

California does a visual inspection so you'd fail emissions if you do a secondary delete.

If you buy the mid pipes, which would delete the secondary cats, you could swap them back and forth for emission inspection purposes.

Yeah and that'd save ya the trouble of trying to track down a reasonably priced claymore.

I live in Cali and I just held onto my cats after installing my Eisenmann catback. They just sit in the garage awaiting the day to be of use.

pro: increase around 3-5 hp for N51 and you can feel it
exhaust sound much better, more bubuling with PE, No SES, will pass sniffer and non sniffer smog test. Con: wont pass visual smog inspection,

I had a 328i fully modded with everything done to it under CPO.
The secondary cat delete will give you alittle more HP and a nice sound. I would recommend it, I never had a problem taking the car into service. But my dealership was mod friendly.

Say you got the afe racing midpipes to go along with a PE. Are they going to even notice the cats missing if there's no cuts in the piping? Do they even know to look for the secondary cats? I feel like most cars don't have secondaries (could be wrong though). I live in CA. On my previous e90 I deleted the secondaries but never had to get a smog check done (deleted them after I got it done). On my e92 I'm thinking of getting some mid pipes to replace the secondaries so they would be easy to bolt on again if I ever had to put them on.
