For 91 I would start off with Map 1. If you still plan on putting a little 104 in and getting to 93 oct, then go to map 2.

Def. I always have some jugs of 104 in the garage.

Also I have a E85 station about a mile from my house. What kind of mix can I get without the flex fuel wires?

Up to E20 without wires. Toss the FF wires on and have some real fun!

I guess you also had the FF wires in there?

1. BMS intake is a "hot air" intake, draws hot air from engine bay and reduces the power to - 10

2. Chargepipe is for durability and has nothing to do with power gain

3. JB4 gave as much as it can from pump gas bumping the power up to +10

Do the math.

-10 + 0 + 10 = 0 (congratulations, your butt dyno is within error margin of 0.0001%)

Hmm..... I'd have to disagree about some of this. While I agree there is no HP benefit to the intake with the stock turbo, I doubt he's losing power because of it - but for argument's sake, let's assume that was true.

The JB4 on map 5, for me anyway, nets 15psi peak with 93 octane vs. 8psi with the stock map. Each psi increase is worth about 5-7 hp with no other mods, so I estimate the JB4 to be giving me an extra 40+ hp - and that's being very conservative. I would bet it's at least 50+ hp according to my recently calibrated butt dyno (that's another story). So he should still be able to get 30-40 hp out of it, which is certainly noticeable.

I also disagree that JB4 produces only +10, unless you're talking units each worth about 4-5 horsepower

I've gone back and forth on BMS (or any) intake. If I get it, would be for colder months at least and for the sound benefit, even if you can squeeze 5-10 HP out of it. Personally, I like just tune w/ charge pipe. Nice and simple. But there is so much you can do depending on how/where you drive.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a base dyno from my stock car, done at EAS in Anaheim. Put out 290/290 if I remember correctly. Once I get the JB4 installed I will do another dyno at EAS on the same dyno, first on pump 91 gas in map1 then later with e85 in map 5. So I can see what's what.

Nice dude, 290 is pretty good stock. I assume EAS used a Dynojet? I also compared with various maps including map5 e85. I would suggest doing only 3-4 pulls due to eventual heat soak.

Good comparison would be to dyno ON THE SAME DAY (1) stock without JB4 hooked up, then (2) with JB4 map0/4 to see JB4 stock baseline (could be little different if running ISO), then (3) map 1/2/5. I'm personally interested to see how map 2 does on e85 or even 93 if you can find that. Then on a separate day with same temps and gas as before, dyno just map 5 that has already been adapted (learned), and then maybe map 2 if you don't mind resetting back to map 5 after you're all done.

It's all a guess anyway including the estimate of rwhp to hp. But comparing between maps is somewhat reliable IMO. My guess is you will see about 35-45 over stock in map 1, 40-50 in map 2, and who knows in map 5 e85 depending on e85 and the car's previous adaptation. many people claim map 5 is not great on a dyno but it's difficult to prove why that should be. I would do pulls in 4th gear, starting out slow and building up to redline to try to avoid wheel slip...

And enjoy your exhaust.

EDIT: I see you have FMIC, so enjoy extra pulls. Curious to see torque curve differences. Maybe that's why difference in butt dyno is not noticeable?? I think higher RPM's is where I feel most difference, with boost really kicking in nicely and pulling the car more than stock.

So, Jb4 is installed, ISO 5.5 hex is loaded and went for a drive last weekend.

First kept it on Map 1 since I only had 91 in the tank. Drove around for a bit and I was pleasantly surprised. Car pulled strong, especially 2nd and 3rd gear and even 4th are a load of fun.

On sunday I went for a Mulholland hwy ride with my mates and I decided to add 5 gallon of 100 octane to my remaining 4 or so gallon of 91 and switch it to Map 5.
All I can say is holy cow, what a difference! The more I drove the car the faster it went and it is a rocket. I was also surprised how fast the car is before it's building serious boost, just driving around in 3rd and flooring it is like being shot out of a cannon. I don't think I even need a DP at this stage.

Today I switched back to Map 1 since we only have 91 octane around here and i think it's good for DD.

Next up I will add 2 gallons of 100 and 2 gallons of E85 (no FF wires yet) and see what it does.

Ahh that feeling each time you make a big jump in power. It's so damn fun. Now it's time to save for a turbo upgrade and LSD! haha.

I went from stock to JB4 (no other mods) and it was a huge difference. I would try map 2 if you don't feel a difference in map 5. I would double check your connections as well. As others have suggested, upload a datalog to n54tech.

Here is some more experiences. First I tried 91 octane pure in Map 1. I def noticed a power bump but also a lot of 'pumping' instead of a smooth curve. Did you guys get that too?

Next I put it in Map 5 and let it learn to my 91 juice and I have to say power delivery was as good, maybe even better than Map 1 and way smoother.

Today I added 3 gallons of E85, went out of the map and back in it to re-adjust it and the car pulls good! Not as hard as last week with the 91/100 blend of 96 octane but def strong. I just noticed a slight idle rumble, seems a tiny bit more rough.
I read in a post that it might be a good idea go use control 1/7 to clear the adaptions for the new blend.

Comments?

P.s. should have my FF wires by next week

Interesting, I just made a post the other day that was similar - I have Cobb Stage 1 Aggressive, ER CP, BMW Intake and expected more. I think my expectations were too high, at least for low end.

Trust me, that's what I said also. Give it some time though and you'll become completely used to it and you'll want more.

Check out the regional sub forums and ask around for a shop that does "inspections" for a little extra $$
