Ohlin Rebuild

Anyone ever had their Ohlins rebuilt? I have got 50k on mine and they are feeling like they need it? How much did it cost?

One of my more expensive mods and worth every penny.

Downfall of those shocks, they don't seem to last very long before a rebuild is required.

50k is a VERY long lifespan for an aftermarket strut. That is 5 years at 10k miles a year. Half the life of an OEM strut seems very fair to me...

Who drives 10k a year? lol

What kind of struts have you been running that require rebuilds at or before 50k? I've run many (Bilstein, KONI, H&R, etc) and haven't experienced anything short of OEM longevity.

If I'm swapping struts before a set of front pads and rotors something is seriously wrong (Making the assumption here we're talking daily drivers)

I drive maybe 5k a year tops in my E92, national average DD is like 12k miles I think? The e92 is a toy that's why it has an expensive suspension. 3k coilovers would be a waste on a daily driver...but maybe that is just me personally.

I have seen KWs need rebuilds below 50k and KONIs fail under 25k same with Fortune Auto. It's a bit of a shit show from my experience, I have seen others last longer. Also if all your miles are high way it's as easy life for a shock body. Miles do not tell everything from my experience.

The higher the performance shock the less warranty they come with it seems...unfortunately they also seem to not last as long. Like KW Clubsports come with zero warranty, I've seen posts of them needing rebuilds after a few races.

Check out MCS who make bad ass struts:

https://motioncontrolsuspension.com/service-repair/

Our general recommendation for service intervals is as follows:

Street : 25,000 miles
Street/HPDE: 15-20,000 miles
Sprint: 150 hours
Sprint/Enduro: 125 hours
Endurance Race: 75 hours
Every 5 years

I don't know about x5 but konis blew on my friends 540 and rusted bad on my vw jetta mk4

I'm thinking the best is the b6 bilstein. The b4 is based on the old tc which is actually suffer on rebound than the b6 (sports originally called). Too much rebound makes harsh ride

Ohlins, are they super stiff?

Ohlins for both cars and motorcycles are just exceptional...looking like roughly a grand for rebuild from a very competent shop near Sears Point raceway

I've own ohlins on my DD 335d for over 2 years now! I typically drive from 100-200km/day
They feel the same as when new. Never rebuilded them yet! I drive them all year (living in Quebec)

I ordered a set of Ohlins for my 335D. Still waiting for them to be made/shipped. But I ordered through a local Ohlins service center so I can have them serviced 5 minutes from where I live. I was worried about having to send them off to North Carolina

70N/mm front 120N/mm as per recommendation from OhlinsUSA. I didnt bother with swift springs as the updated spring rates on the R&T kit are fine now.
