I know there are many discussion about lowered suspension and bump stops (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=836365,
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699650, etc.), but I am a bit confused. If I install lowered springs (Eibach Pro Kit "i" springs) on the OEM e90 shocks, I need to cut the rear bump stops or install new ones (E36 M3 [front] 3133 2225 377, E86 Z4M [rear] 3353 6770 350). Fine. But if I install lowered springs and Bilstein sport shocks, do I need to cut/change the bump stops? Or the bump stops ("auxiliary shock absorber" in the BMW words) are specific to the OEM shocks only?

Anytime you lower it no matter what shocks you should put bumpstops to allow for more travel on the shocks since you're lower. You should get new bumpstops rather than cutting them especially if you have a lot of milage they're usually horrible by then. Also try not to put lowering springs on stock shocks ride is gonna be rough and you don't wanna end up paying for installation twice. you should also look into coilovers kw has a $100+ rebate and tiago@vrsf has an amazing price probably just as much as shocks and springs after the rebate and you get to adjust to the height you want.

Front bilsteins (McPherson struts) have internal bump stops, you wouldn't be able to fit a standard one on there. Search some more, I posted a pic a while back of how it works.

To be clear, I bought this:

- Eibach Pro Kit "i" springs: 2092.140
- Bilstein Sport shocks: Front Left: 35-142478, Front Right: 35-142485, Rears (same): 24-120425
- Bump stops: front E36 M3: 3133 2225 377, rear E86 Z4M: 3353 6770 350

So I am confused. I was told to get the bump stops listed above. That's what I did. But now if you're saying I cannot fit bump stops in the Bilstein Sport shocks... what about the rear?

Keep the rears and use them. The fronts would only apply if you had got Konis. Once the parts arrive it will be clear you can't fit external bump stops on the front bilsteins. This is discussed at length in several threads.

One other point, if the rear Bilsteins come with their own bumpstops, compare length to the Z4 rear stops. If they are the same I would keep them, and return all the extra stops. If they are not same length, by that I mean longer or comparable length to stock stops, use the Z4's.

Reason I ask is I had bilstein sports on my other BMW and they came with shorter rear stops. In fact I reused them when I put konis on that car. They were good quality stops (better than OEM) and had not deteriorated at all in 10+ years.

I have not seen new rear bilstein sports in person for the 335. Someone who has maybe could chime in.

I have Bilstein HD rears and they come with their own very high quality bumpstops. Good thing about these shocks is the bump stops sit underneath the blue dust cover so they are more protected than the oem which just sit out in the open on top of the oem dustcover. I have been informed by Bilstein that on our cars we use the Bilstein supplied dust cover and bumpstop, do NOT transfer the oem to the new shock like on some other brands.
