I drive 3-4000 miles a month and the sport seats are killing my upper thoracic and and neck. Literally 5mins after getting in the fire starts between me shoulder blades.
I have an X5 with multi-contour and they are wonderful with no pain for 8+ hours of driving. Can I put multi-contour seats in my E90? I don't care about memory and all that Jazz. I'll just power them up get it right and leave it. I'll make brackets if I have to. All my height is in my torso so the upper seat is making me hunch over. The multi seats are hinged at this point and makes it super perfect. |

If you get a chance might want to try the M3 seats first as they’re a direct, painless swap. Pardon the pain pun.
I’ve not heard of anyone completing x5 seat swap but I have an inkling they may be too wide between the door and the center console. |

second question if your current sport seats have central lumbar support adjustment(optional) or only side lumbar support ?

What about E46M3 seats. They look to actually contour back at the top which would be perfect. |

Depending on the age of the x5 you’ll probably have to move some harness pins around, but hopefully it works out.
Will be interested to hear how it works. Please report back! |

Funny this should follow me into the E90. Back in my E46 days we realized at E46 fanatics that the X5 E53 contour seats was a direct plug and play fit into any BMW 3 series E46.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=12857441 I never got a chance to do this modification but I believed a fellow on the UK web boards for E46 (E46zone) did this retrofit since contour seats on the early X5 E53 there were more prevalent in the UK and Asian markets. One revelation that maybe important to you was that we discovered the BMW X5 of old was based more off the E46 3 series platform (not the E39 5 series) and shared many part numbers for interior and mechanical parts. I'm not sure if BMW continued this with the newer 3 series and X5 generations especially since current 5 series directly share the 7 series build platform. I have heard the early gen X6 vehicle shares many E90 parts under the hood so maybe a seat from an early X6 can work. Back then most retrofits were plug and play on the E90 I don't think it would be so easy. I can't even replace E90 non-sport seats with E90 sports seats without the car's computer that monitors the air bag system going crazy. The seats on the E90 are directly linked with the SRS and airbag systems so it may detect the wrong seat attached to the car. So good luck. In the end I just resolved to say if contoured seats ever became important to me again that I would just pursue an X5 or 5 series with contour seating. Quote:

Did you consider an aftermarket seat?
Something like the Recaro Sportster CS? From feedback I've seen, people love them and said they're great even on 8 hour trips |

One more thing I forgot to mention that you will be sitting much higher if your seat transplant is successful. There is no way to keep the seat as low as the regular E90 seats sit. I noticed you said you were tall in the torso so this may make your head rub against the roof.

Airbags are fine if you keep LCI and non LCI separate.
Was just looking at 2015 x5 (don’t know model #) today and I must say the seats were much smaller than I thought they were. I think you might have a shot at this. What year is your car and what year car are you looking to take seats from? |

Just measured the multi contour in our '12 35i X5 and they are 32 and 1/4 ish with the outboard motor on the console side. Not sure they will fit. Gonna pull one this weekend and see. If not I'll find a 535x touring with contours. |
