i am getting squeaking at all 4 corners on my konis

same squeak on all corners, sounds exactly like a rusty old spring mattress

i understood that the konis could sound swooshy or whatever but not like this

any thoughts?

shocks are set to full soft and are setup with stock xdrive springs

am happy with the performance (do have to add more damping but just wanted to see what full soft was like first) and find the shocks an amazing upgrade over stock but too noisy

also added subframe bushings and sway bars

the install was done 100% the car seems rock solid except for the squeak

the noise is most evident going slow over speeds bumps

thoughts?

This tends to be the case usually only in cold temps; does it always happen or just in the cooler weather?

well it has dropped the temp here lately to 10-15 celcius

but it seems to do it regardless of the temps as it did it when it was warmer too

Squeaking is usually poly sway bar bushings. One reason why a lot of people prefer the OEM M3 rear bar over aftermarket.

i did replace the sways with uuc sways

they use poly urethane bushings do those squeek?

very noticeable in the front ill bet its them, at first it seemed fine but after a few weeks started squeeking like crazy

is there a non poly bushing i can use for the uuc bar?

Grease the bushings properly and they won't squeak. You don't want to go to softer rubber bushings on the bar.

Make sure you torques all the mounting bolts down at ride height. Squeaking I have seen often comes from people who torqued everything with the suspension fully extended. Not only will it squeak, all the bushings will be torn up in no time.

in theory tho, can i use the stock bushings on the uuc bars?

for my coil overs...i reused the oem rubber bump stops, that got rid of my squeky noise over bumps.

No you can't. The bars are completely different diameters. You HAVE to use the new ones or the bar will not engage properly.

i have oem bump stops so its not them

hmm...it could be the the sway bar bushings need to be greased like others have said. I would also check the top mount nuts on your front and rear shocks. Make sure there torqued to spec.

I have the exact same issue and was going to post a video of my own but it sounds so similar that I wont bother.

I'm fairly sure I found the issue as being the rubber of smaller control arm, the one in front of bigger one. I believe the technical term is front forward lower control arm.

I've come to this conclusion by disconnecting the sway bar from the sub frame and bouncing the car. After an eternity under and on top of the car I finally saw movement in the forward lower control arm rubber that seems to directly correspond with the creaking. I also had my struts done last year but the noise doesn't seem to be coming from them. I also loosened both the front and rear lower control arms with the car on ramps and re torqued which didn't change anything. I'm satisfied with my findings but I don't have a solution other than replacing the forward control arm which i probably won't do unless they are shot.

I had more time today and its definitely coming from both tie rods. I put a stethoscope on them and jacked the car up and down. I can see the tie rods get stuck on something then pop down producing a creaking noise. Now to figure out why, hopefully its nothing expensive. Anyway thats my situation I don't have rear noise.

i am bringing mine in and i will update this thread

i had just replaced my shocks and springs and sways so i assumed it was to do with those but i will update once i know for sure

i thought my squeak was the sway bar bushing but could be the tie rods

Tie rods that have a rubber boot puncture can dry out and start to "creak". Dry poly sway bar bushings sound more like a "squeak". That's the best description that I can think of.

mine is definitely a "squeak" and i did just add poly sway bushings a couple months ago so i think mine is the sways
