Is this good, chip-resistant paint for the lower mesh grill?
I went to Home Depot and picked up a can of this, http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct....182&sid=245198
Along with a container to spray it in, and some thin foam brushes to apply it with. Will this chip in a few months time or is it good stuff? |

Tiag,
I just did this project. I started off with the foam, sponge and a small paint brush and no matter what I did it looked like crap. The texture left by the brushes, foam, sponges I tried just really looked like garbage. Here is what I did after giving up on the hand painting. Pull the center piece out. It is very easy to get out. Pop it off tabs and you can manipulate this piece out the front of the spoiler. Spray this piece off the car. Then I taped off the sides and sprayed the side 2 grills on the car. Before taping and spraying the grills push them back a little bit so you have more room to tape. I put tape all over the place just to be safe and for over spray. But these spray cans have a very small radius and I barely got any paint on the tape. I wish I would have tried this method first, it would have saved me a lot of time. By the way I used this same paint. Lifo |

Rustoliem has a speciel spray paint for PLASTIC. That's the one you need.
I've had mine over 7,000 miles with NO CHIPPING at all. GL!

The can I linked says it's "universal" for metal, stone, plastic, etc......you think it's okay? Or is the one for plastic a more "dedicated" spray...

For the center piece you dont need to take the bumper off at all. You need to push it back where each of the tabs is. The bottom needs to come up and then push back. It sits in a groove kind of. Hard to explain. Once you have it pushed back move it to the left and pull it out from the right. Once you play with it for a minute or 2 it will be obvious on what to do. |

I painted mine myself. It looks good from far but when upclose you can tell it was home painted. I'm too picky to be satisfied with it so im going to be ordering black oem grilles and taking the bumper off to replace them. Yeah it'll be a pain in the ass but in the end Ill be way happier with the outcome.
Anyone know if I need the modified ones for the oil cooler? I have an 08' may build 335. |

They don't have the paint for plastic in flat black. I went to 3 Home Depot's in my area. They only have "Textured" flat black for plastic, which feels like sandpaper.

I used that exact paint for my kidney grills and lower grills, and I dont have any chips. The spray mechanism on that can is really good too... it sprays vertically instead of randomly like the rest of the spray cans.

i just painted mine with some spray can. if it starts chipping then i'll just probably take out the middle mesh. i've seen some cars without it and looks good too.

Just finished painting my lower mesh grills yesterday with the Rustoleum Universal Flat Black.
It was a pain in the ass to tape up the grill area....and painting it required a combination of tiny paint brushes and sponges. I even got some spraypaint on my car, but that came off real easy with some wax. Looks descent from up close...a few spots you can tell I missed because of the painters tape. Paint is still quite soft even though I painted it yesterday. BTW; I must admit the combo of TiAg, black kidney and mesh grills, and stock bumper looks weird. Looks a lot better when the car is on and you have the contrast of the angel eyes though. |

This is exactly what I used and worked like a charm. No need for a primer. Two coats (with 2 hour dry time in between) and you are good to go. Recommend taking the whole bumper off and getting three mesh pieces out. Pain in the a** but best final result.

I used Krylon Flat Black spray paint and then cleared it with Krylon Matte Finish and it started chipping/scraping when I was clipping the mesh back into the bumper. I might just leave it out.
